Apple Tablet available on Feb 2010?

0

“There’s no smoke without the fire”, is an old saying that mac lovers probably hope holds true when it comes to the rumors about the Apple tablet.

And although the Apple event already took place last week and no Apple tablet was announced (leaving a lot of people disappointed), the rumors haven’t stopped circulating.

Now, a new “ update” about the tablet is circulating the web, and its saying that the Apple tablet is gonna be available on February next year. According to The Taiwan Economic News, this date came from Taiwanese parts suppliers.

The yet-to-be-seen device is said to have a 9.6-inch touch screen display and built-in HSPDA wireless date module. The processor is said to have been manufactured by PA SEMI, and some 300,000 long-lasting batteries for the tablet is said to be built by DynaPack International Technology too.

The rumor also says Wanshih Electronic Company has manufactured the cables, Mag. Layers Scientific-Technics Company for the power chokes, and Wintek has provided the display screens.

All these companies are from Taiwan and if you start thinking it’s not possible, it is. Wintek actually provides the display screens for Apple’s iPhone while Mag. Layers has also been supplying power chokes for Apple for some time now too.

Pretty specific for a rumor huh? 🙂

Adobe released updates for Lightroom and Camera Raw today.

The updates, Lightroom 2.5 and Camera Raw 5.5, is available for download through Adobe’s Web site or through Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom 2 programs.

So what’s new with these updates?

This “final” version of Camera Raw and the Lightroom has both increased their list of supported digital camera models. These new digicams include Nikon’s D300s and D3000, Olympus E-P1 and Panasonic DMC-GF1 and DMC-FZ35 cameras.

Another change that comes with the release of the two is the correct demosaic algorithms for cameras like those from Sony, Olympus and Pansonic that use Bayer sensors with “unequal green response.”

Inside the new iPod Touch: “n” Wi-Fi hardware, FM and space for camera

Yep, Steve Jobs may not have disclosed everything in the 9/9 Apple event.

Gadget teardown specialist iFixit dissected the new iPod Touch  and found some “unexpected discoveries” which included a Broadcom  BCM4329 chip  (for those who have no idea that is, that’s a new and faster Wi-Fi hardware) and a layout that appears to leave just enough room  for a camera.

“This is a big deal, as even the iPhone 3GS doesn’t support 802.11n,” Kyle Wiens of iFixit said. “We don’t know yet if 802.11n will be supported in the iPod Touch software, but at least the hardware’s there.”

The chip has also the capacity to support FM transmission and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR which opens up the possibility of streaming music directly to the car stereo, but as Wiens said, “that’s a lot of ifs”.

As to the camera space, Wiens said the 6x6x3-millimeter space between the Broadcom chip and the wireless antenna isn’t enough for an “iPhone-style autofocus still camera, but just enough room for the camera that Apple used in the fifth-generation iPod Nano.”

Oh well, let’s just wait what Apple cooks up. And for the meantime, keep those rumors coming yall! 😉

Welcome home Discovery shuttle

0

“Houston, Discovery, wheels stopped.”

Marine Col. Frederick W. Sturckow, commander of the Discovery shuttle, radioed as they landed on Runway 22 at Edwards Air Force Base at 8:53 p.m E.D.T.

The shuttle was set to land at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida but bad weather that promised to continue on Saturday, stopped them from doing so.

The Discovery crew plus Army Col. Timothy L. Kopra plans to fly back to Houston tomorrow.

Kopra, who stayed at the International Space Station for two months, traveled back to Earth on this his back in a recumbent seat to ease his return to gravity.

“This experience has completely exceeded anything that I thought it would be like, just the sights, the sounds, the experiences with a great crew,” said Colonel Kopra last week. “The main thing …I’m looking forward to is seeing my family again, my wife and two kids. And maybe have a sip of a beer.”

Ahhh, nothing like a sip of beer can cure homesickness. 😉

Albert Gonzalez faces a sentence of up to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty today.

The 28-year-old man from Miami admitted to  federal charges in New York and Massachusetts. He also faces charges in New Jersey.

Gonzalez’s hacking activities in the past years were so huge that it could be the most notorious computer hacking including attacks on computer systems of retailers like T.J. Maxx, OfficeMax, BJ’s Wholesale Club,  Boston Market, Barnes & Noble, Sports Authority and even Dave & Buster’s restaurant chain. Feds say he must have stolen as many as 40 million credit and debit card numbers.

“He just feels really bad, mainly because of the damage he’s caused, but also because of what his family has had to endure,” Rene Palomino Jr., Gonzalez’s Miami attorney said. “He just wants to go ahead and do the right thing and take responsibility for his actions. One day, he will go and lead a productive life like any other citizen.”

Gonzales was arrested in May 2008 while he was staying with his girlfriend at the National Hotel, Miami Beach.

Twitter changes rules, welcomes advertisers

twitter

Yup, it seems like the folks at Twitter have finally decided that it IS time for the website to make money.

Today, Twitter founder Biz Stone announced on the site’s official blog that  they’ve changed their “terms of service”, expanding it to allow advertisers to reach the site’s more than 45 million users.

“We leave the door open for advertising. We’d like to keep our options open, as we’ve said before,” he wrote.

Advertising allows websites to generate revenue while still remaining free to use for consumers.

The terms now read:

“The services may include advertisements, which may be targeted to the content or information on the services, queries made through the services, or other information.”

But terms of service also indicates that  is not permanent and may be changed.

“The types and extent of advertising by Twitter on the services are subject to change.”

AT&T launches video site

0

My, my. It seems like a lot of companies have chosen to unveil their new products and services this week and that includes giant carrier AT&T which announced their new Web site Thursday.

The Web site, dubbed AT&T Entertainment, offers free streaming ad-supported TV shows and movies to computers. The service is very similar to Hulu.

AT&T Entertainment offers content from major TV networks ABC, NBC and CBS and cable networks like Bravo, Oxygen, Syfy, The CW, USA Network, CNBC and others, some courtesy of a partnership with Hulu.

According to the company, this move is part of its strategy to make content available to consumers across their screens: TV, PC and mobile phone. I’m assuming this its first step as there is still no word as to when the content will also be available on the TVs or mobile phones.  😉

The question as to whether the frequent use of cellular phones result to health risks has been around since these mobile gadgets dominated the world.

Although the U.S. Food and Drug Administration says that there is no scientific evidence regarding the negative health effects of exposure to radio frequency energy from mobile phones, the Environmental Working Group insists that this is indeed something to be worried about.

“We would like to be able to say that cell phones are safe,” Olga Naidenko, EWG senior scientist and lead author of the study, informed the public in a statement. “But we can’t. The most recent science, while not conclusive, raises serious issues about the cancer risk of cell phone use that must be addressed through further research. In the meantime, consumers can take steps to reduce exposure.”

So to make the public more aware, the group rated 1,200 cell phones according to their radiation emissions. You can find the list here.
