First Hardware Device For Spotify

Its first ever hardware device is being developed by Spotify. Spotify announced that it will be sharing news in an event on April 24th. It is still unclear if it will unveil hardware later this month in New York. But word has it that Spotify is working on an in-car controller, or even a standalone player. This is to allow users of the streaming service who are driving to control music playback using their voice.

Customer Subscriptions

Customers reported that they received offers on their subscription last February. They said that the offer was that a device would come along with their $12.99 per month subscription. The consumers agreed on a 12-month term. The cost of the device will be included in their monthly payment, which will total to $155.

Another user claimed that Spotify showed them a different $14.99 price point. It advertised support for Amazon’s Alexa assistant. For others, Spotify detailed built-in 4G mobile data which will allow the device to function independently of a smartphone.
But the prompt only appeared once and never came back. Nothing was heard of it after February.

But still, those who received the offer said that it was a legitimate offer. The only problem probably was that the offer was accidentally sent ahead of Spotify’s schedule. But there is still no news as to when Spotify will launch it.

How Does The Device Look Like

According to the subscribers who have received the offer, the device has a circular design with physical buttons for track controls and shuffle. It also has al LED running around the outside in Spotify’s green. But Spotify still declines to comment on this.

The device has been mentioned on Spotify’s support forums but drew little attention. Forum administrators always say that it’s just a test. Their usual response to questions is , “We are always testing things to improve Spotify. Right now, we don’t have any news for this. But we have let the right team know it’s something you would like to see.”

Spotify has put out job listings for hardware projects. The company is actively testing voice commands on smartphone apps. It all points out to Spotify building its own speaker in the vein of Apple’s HomePod.
