The Marvel Universe has 18 films in total, here are the 6 films to get you started before watching Avengers: Infinity War.
A lot of people may have already seen most of the Marvel movies that came out in the last decade. But if you’re like me who either (a) still gets confused about the origins of the characters or (b) already forgot most of the storyline, you’re in luck.
The Avengers: Infinity War is slated to come out this week. The Avengers are set to fight their most menacing enemy – Thanos.
It’s safe to say this could be the biggest film event of 2018. Over three dozen characters are making an appearance in the movie, making it a bit daunting to watch. If you’re a newbie to the Marvel Universe and want a bit of background, read on.
There are 18 films in the Marvel franchise but the 6 on this list is good start in exploring that universe:
1. The Avengers (2012)
This movie gives a proper introduction to the superheroes working together and of course, the super villains. Nick Fury, S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Director assembles the group and the team learns to fight together in preventing Loki from taking over Earth.
Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, the Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye are featured in this movie. Thanos also makes an appearance for the first time during the mid-credits scene as well as two infinity stones.
2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
Working for S.H.I.E.L.D., Captain America fights a mysterious assassin known as the Winter Soldier. This movie brings back Cap’s best friend who supposedly died in Captain America: The First Avenger.
Watching this movie will help you understand why Nick Fury isn’t around in upcoming movies anymore.
3. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
The movie first introduced us to a group of intergalactic misfits who worked together to keep Ronan from getting his hands on the mysterious Orb. This Orb actually has an Infinity Stone buried in it.
Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot, as well as Nebula are featured in the film and will all appear in the Infinity War. Thanos also makes his first appearance in the actual film, commanding Ronan to get him the Orb. The Collector, a character in the movie, plays a major role in explaining what the Infinity Stones are.
4. Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Although it was titled Captain America, this movie is basically another Avengers movie. After the governments agreed that superheroes need to be regulated, the Avengers were divided into two opposing teams. Iron Man was all for it, while Captain America was against being kept in check.
The movie introduced the Black Panther and Spider-Man to the Marvel Universe. Scarlet Witch, Vision (who has an Infinity Stone on his forehead) and Ant-Man who were introduced previously in separate movies are also in the movie. It’s good to watch as it gives a glimpse of the team’s dynamics before Thanos arrives. Avengers: Infinity War is basically the period after this movie.
5. Doctor Strange (2016)
This movie introduces us to Doctor Strange, a neurosurgeon who travels to Nepal and learns about the mystic arts. Another Infinity Stone is featured in this movie, used by Doctor Strange to put a stop to his enemy in the movie.
Again, Doctor Strange will also make a comeback in the Infinity War movie.
6. Black Panther (2018)
Last but not the least, is of course, Black Panther. He is the ruler of Wakanda, an African nation. This place will be an important part of the Infinity War as it is the setting for the movie’s closing act. Some of the supporting cast will also be involved in putting a stop to Thanos.
And there you go! Grab some popcorn and get comfy while you watch (or rewatch) these films.
