Oppo Digital Is Stopping Production Of Its High End Headphones

Oppo Digital will no longer continue production of its high end headphones. This is according to the 14-year old US brand known for its high end audio equipment and disc players. The company said they have started winding down its business.

The company said they will gradually stop making some of their products starting April 2nd.

Affected Products

Products like the PM3 headphones, and DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD disc players are the products whose production will gradually stop. Oppo Digital is a different company from Oppo the phone maker. And it is unaffected by the announcement.

Existing And Sold Products

Those who own these products will still get technical support, including for items in and out of warranty. Oppo Digital said those who have bought these products in the past 30 days are eligible for refund. The company also said that they will continue selling these products until their stocks run out. Sales will still be available on its websites and through authorized resellers.

Oppo Digital said it would issue firmware updates on its products when “new features or bug fixes warrant such an upgrade.

Products like UDP-203 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc player and UDP-205 4K Ultra HD Audiophile Blu-ray disc player are likely to receive more frequent firmware updates. Older models like the BDP-103 Blu-ray disc player will only receive one if any critical issues arise.

Why The Shut Down

Oppo Digital did not say why they are shutting down its audio and disc player business. But it is more likely due to eschewing physical media in favor of Netflix, Hulu, HBO, and other streaming services. “ From now on, Oppo Digital will focus our main effort on organizing and ensuring long term support for the existing generation of products.”, the company said in a statement. “As such, we will not have the resources to develop and release new generations of products.”

So if you have these products which are affected by the shut down, you can go see your retailer and be advised on what to do with your equipment.
