Mobile users of OnePlus 5 have something to celebrate this yuletide. The popular smartphone will be getting a new feature. The OnePlus 5 is expected to feature a facial recognition technology called the Face Unlock.
The company launched the Face Unlock feature in its latest iteration which is the OnePlus 5T. News about the OnePlus 5’s feature surfaced earlier this week. In a Twitter post on Sunday, OnePlus Co-Founder Carl Pei made the announcement officially to the delight of the OnePlus 5 mobile users.
“Due to popular demand, Face Unlock is coming for the smartphone. Thanks for the feedback, and merry Christmas!,” Pei wrote on Sunday, December 24.
When the OnePlus posted the announcement, several OnePlus mobile users posted on the Twitter thread some questions about the Face Unlock feature. They want to know if such feature supports another phone like OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, respectively. OnePlus has yet to issue an official statement to address the concerns asked by the mobile users.
How does the Face Unlock feature works?
OnePlus explains that the Face Unlock feature works by unlocking a user’s smartphone through the help of the front camera. The Face Unlock feature works similarly with Apple’s Face ID as featured in iPhone X. The company further claims that OnePlus 5T is the first phone in the OnePlus series to sport such facial recognition technology.
