Apple is constantly working to improve the security on its devices and protect our data. This has led to improved encryption and a shift from simple passcodes to fingerprint and most recently facial recognition on its smartphones. The security measures are so good, police seizing an iPhone have to be careful not to look directly at it. There is one thorn in Apple’s side when it comes to security, though, and that’s the company Grayshift. Founded in 2016, it offers law enforcement agencies around the world an iPhone unlocking device called GrayKey. It works, or at least it did until now, and has won Grayshift many customers. However, that all changed with iOS 12.
Snapchat’s poor Android app is still proving to be a major problem for the company. The app lost users for the second straight quarter, with its daily active users declining by 2 million, and Snapchat’s lackluster Android app may be to blame. “The decline was primarily among Android users,” CEO Evan Spiegel said in his prepared remarks during the company’s third-quarter earnings call.
Just before the launch of No Man’s Sky back in August of 2016, Hello Games chief Sean Murray released an open letter to fans. There was something just a tiny bit odd about the note. After all, it opened with this line: I feel sick writing this. You are about to play ‘No Man’s Sky’ and I don’t know what you’ll think. “Believe the hype” this was decidedly not. And sure enough, upon its release the gaming community descended into that place only the gaming community really can: Collective fury, a sense of betrayal, and outrage all mixed into a frothing stew that quickly bubbled over.
Pokémon Go has encouraged more than a few people to step up their physical exercise, and Niantic wants to reward that. It’s launching an Adventure Sync feature in its augmented reality games (starting with Pokémon Go) that syncs with Google Fit and iOS’ HealthKit to translate steps into game progress without having the app open or using a smartwatch. If you regularly go for a run before work, you’ll see that reflected in more Pokémon candy or more efficient egg hatching. You’ll get weekly milestones, too.
Short of an actual apocalypse (which should be coming any day now), this Nerf-branded gun from Hasbro is (thankfully) probably the closest you’re going to come to any real life Fortnite action in the near future. The dart-firing gun was announced recently, alongside a Fortnite version of Monopoly (which launched earlier this month), and now we’ve got some pictures and a June 1 release date. The AR-L Blaster was inspired by the firearm in the wildly popular sandbox survival game and has the giant Fortnite branding across its body to provide it.
Samsung today announced results of the #NinjaGalaxySquad contest, which called for gamers to showcase their best moments while wearing the super elite Galaxy skin within Fortnite to secure a spot on Ninja’s coveted gaming squad. Grand prize winner Hector Diaz will join the celebrity-packed squad – including Fortnite streaming legend Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, Crazy Rich Asians and Oceans 8 actor Nora “Awkwafina” Lum and award-winning artist Travis Scott – for an exclusive livestream. The exciting Fortnite gameplay is set to take place on Tuesday, October 30, which will also exclusively debut the all-new Galaxy accessory kit.
Google exposed the personal information of users of its Google+ social network, the company announced in a blog post this morning. The news, originally reported by The Wall Street Journal ahead of Google’s announcement, means that Google+ profile information like name, email address, occupation, gender, and age were exposed, even when that data was listed as private and not public. However, Google says that it has no evidence to suggest any third-party developers were aware of the bug or abused it. The bug appears to have been active between 2015 and 2018.
Facebook announced its new Portal hardware today, a limited-purpose device that allows users to video chat on Facebook almost exclusively. And there’s something strangely retro about the concept: This is the standalone videophone device that George Jetson had in the 1960s and that AT&T imagined in the 1990s—the device that we were supposed to skip over.
A Sony patent suggests the company is looking to make the PlayStation 5 backward-compatible. The US Patent and Trademark Office published the patent “Remastering by emulation” on Oct. 2. Sony filed the patent, which was previously published in May, in November 2016 — suggesting this idea has been around for at least two years. The 14-page document outlines a process by which textures from old games are remastered “on the fly” for higher-resolution displays, as previously noted by Eurogamer. This could mean games from previous console generations will look slightly improved on HD and 4K displays when played on the PS5.
The episode, which you can see above, covers the creation of the weapons in just over 20 minutes and really gives you an idea of what went into their detail. The team goes over each step, starting with some exploration of Greece, combining steel bolt edges with iron, and talking about other parts that would help put the weapons together. It’s really something — and totally makes us want to open a workshop so we could try building. It’s a complex effort by several of Man At Arms’ staffers, even going as far as to manually craft certain parts so they match what’s included in the game. And it’s a process that comes together beautifully, with the weapons finally being completed around the [18:30] mark.
The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman’s company, Skybound Entertainment, has announced it has partnered with Telltale Games to finish the studio’s Walking Dead: The Final Season. “We’ve successfully negotiated with Telltale Games for our company Skybound to come in and see Season 4 of the Telltale game to completion,” Kirkman said during an appearance at New York Comic-Con this weekend. “We can’t lose Andrew Lincoln and Clementine in the same year.” Skybound has been involved with Telltale’s The Walking Dead franchise since the start. After Telltale announced it was winding down last month, many wondered about the fate of The Walking Dead: The Final Season. Telltale announced that it was working with multiple potential partners to finish the series, and it appears Skybound was among them.
Ever since Bethesda first revealed its newest game in the Fallout series, it’s been difficult to get a sense of what Fallout 76 is all about. While the concept of an online Fallout experience is enticing, it also comes into conflict with the series’ typical brand of role-playing. Though Fallout 76 does lessen those traditionally single-player details to a noticeable degree, it offers up an alluring opportunity to explore uncharted, irradiated territory with other players online. With the pivot to multiplayer, Fallout 76 focuses a lot more on exploration and survival in West Virginia’s Appalachia, with all its regional oddities and newfound horrors coming in large doses. Recently, Gamespot played three hours of the game ahead of the game’s upcoming October beta, and spoke with developers from Bethesda Game Studios about the particular challenges of making a different kind of Fallout.
Instagram is, in many parts of the world, the most culturally relevant technology since texting. And that has everything to do with its founders — Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger — and their teams, who have meticulously shaped it since creation, executing near-flawlessly with tight control. Walking through the things that make Instagram so special — its network, product, experience and institutional taste — it’s easy to see vulnerability in the wrong hands. Facebook can’t afford to screw this up — especially now, as it increasingly relies on Instagram for growth and for engagement from younger users.
An Australian teenager who hacked Apple Inc. systems over several months and downloaded sensitive data avoided a jail term Thursday, as a court heard he was fascinated by the tech giant and found accessing its networks addictive.
Advances in wearable tech have been pretty impressive lately, but the device described in a new Nature study blows the competition out of the water. While the Apple Watch is now equipped with an FDA-approved EKG sensor and companies like Samsung are going out of their way to make smartwatches look like fashion statements, the device described in the paper, published Wednesday, puts both to shame. This heart-sensing device has no wires, requires no charging, and is so small that it can wrap around a rat’s heart.
Samsung’s next-generation Galaxy S10 could deliver significant updates in design and features to the South Korean smartphone manufacturer’s flagship line of premium smartphones. At least, that’s what the rumors are suggesting. Even Samsung’s mobile-business leader, DJ Koh, has chimed in to hype up the next Galaxy S smartphone.
Bethesda has released a new trailer and confirmed the release date of the upcoming Fallout 76 beta. As we previously heard, it’ll come to Xbox One before other platforms, but now we know exactly when–the beta begins for Xbox One on October 23 and on October 30 for PlayStation 4 and PC.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is finally dropping next month, and PlayStation has revealed some of what’s in store with the pre-order launch of its PS4 Pro Bundle. The box refers to a “timed exclusive for 30 days” and mentions online content. We knew PlayStation users were getting some unique content, but this confirms they’ll get it ahead of everyone else, too.
A slew of new cosmetics and game mechanics just hit Fortnite‘s incredibly popular battle royale game mode. In the spirit of Halloween, both character skins and the game map has taken a creepy turn. But to balance out the darkness, Epic Games threw in some cuteness in the form of pets that players can now carry around on their backs. Here’s everything that’s been added or changed for season 6.
The livestream platform Twitch is no longer available in China. After a surge in popularity last month among esports fans, this week the Twitch app was abruptly removed from the iOS App Store in China, leaving fans in the lurch.
It’s been a hell of a year for Sony, coming in the wake of a hell of a console generation. The PS4 has been the clear sales leader this generation from the start, partially because it avoided Microsoft-like stumbles at launch, partially because it’s produced a huge number of must-have exclusive titles for the system.
Overwatch’s feisty dwarf engineer Torbjorn has long been considered a“troll pick.” In my experience, it’s common for teammates’ blood pressure to skyrocket whenever players pick him. We already knew Torbjorn was getting a much-needed overhaul, and today, Overwatch’s game director Jeff Kaplan finally announced what Torbjorn 2.0 will look like.
Bethesda Softworks has seemingly revealed where exactly Fallout 76’s country roads will be taking players home to. It was already known that the game is set in a version of West Virginia, but fans can now put a name to Bethesda’s wasteland version of the Mountain State.

As it turns out, if hackers are able to send a certain kind of fax to your fax machine, they could gain access to everything on your network! According to the research, 45 million fax machines may be at risk.
The CEO of Epic Games is sick and tired of being shortchanged by “digital storefronts” who really do nothing else besides list their games and take a percentage for payment processing. He’s not the only one as Fallout 76 may be going in a similar direction. Here’s what we know so far…

DrLupo decides to ban a subscriber for toxic behavior but with a caveat. Seeing as I have experience in running a Minecraft server several years back that had over 9,000 players visit over the course of a year I know the levels of toxicity the internet has out there, so I rant a little bit about it myself.
500 Million PlayStation systems sold means 500 Million adventures. It means 500 Million journeys into the unknown, 500 Million courageous stands against evil, 500 Million memories of playing with family and friends. So cheers to 500 Million more epic moments ahead!
With QuakeCon 2018 happening this weekend, a panel about Fallout 76 happened as well. This is the latest information dump since E3, so be sure to listen in!
Bethesda Softworks is slated to have press conference ahead of this year’s E3 event. In fact, this is the company’s fourth year in a row to hold a press conference of its own in advance of the event. This time, we would be revealing some fresh details about the company’s new games for E3 event.
In case you don’t know, Bethesda Softworks’ activities are set to kick-off on June 10 at 6:30 p.m. PT/9:30 p.m. ET. You can get the latest updates about their events by following their social media accounts in Facebook, and Twitter, among others.
Here’s a quick round-up of the things that Bethesda Softworks might present during this year’s E3 event.
Fallout 76
Online reports claim that Bethesda Softworks is gearing up for Fallout 76, but the company is not saying much about the rumored game. These reports were based on the briefest of teasers that we’ve seen so far on the web. However, we are not sure if the company would be presenting the Fallout 76 during the media conference. What we are certain, though, is that the rumored game takes place on October 27, 2012. This is based on the canonical Fallout timeline. Other reports hint that Fallout 76 is expected to feature multiplayer action.
Rage 2
Another game that is gaining wide attention from among gamers is Rage 2. You can recall that Bethesda has released the first gameplay trailer back in the middle of May. A quick check of the game’s trailer showed a bit of information. This includes multiple, distinct factions and diverse environments.
Wolfenstein 2, Dishonored 2
Also, Bethesda would further give details about Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus. This game came out back in October 2017. Recently, the game could now be ported over to the Nintendo Switch. On Dishonored 2, avid fans of this game would be hearing a possible update since it was released in November 2016.
