As they say, cheating is a never a mistake, it’s a choice. And that’s a choice that Billy Mitchell has to live with after Guinness erased all his entries in their database.

Mitchell, a.k.a. the “King of Kong,” used to hold the world record for the high scores in Donkey Kong and Pac-Man. In 1999, he achieved the first Pac-Man perfect score of 3,333,360. A year later, he became the first “Donkey Kong” player to earn one million points.

Because of his gaming prowess, he became a gaming legend and became a recurring documentary subject. It also led him to movie roles such as Chasing Ghosts: Beyond the Arcade (2007) and The King of Arcades (2014). He also appeared in the movie Man Vs Snake: The Long and Twisted Tale of Nibbler in 2016.

That’s all gone now after Twin Galaxies has determined that Mitchell used an emulator to obtain some of his records.

The video game record tracking organization reviewed his records and saw the violation of its rules. Twin Galaxies has since removed all of his scores from their leaderboards and banned Mitchell in their future competitions.

Following this, Guinness World Records also removes all of Mitchell’s records in their database.

“The Guinness World Records titles relating to Mr. Mitchell’s highest scores on Donkey Kong have all been disqualified due to Twin Galaxies being our source of verification for these achievements,” a representative of Guinness told Kotakuvia via email.

The record is now up for grabs to anyone who wants to claim it.
