Windows 10 Movie Maker Is Back

Windows movie maker is back. And it has something new. The Windows 10 hidden video editor. Windows 8 and 10 launched without a video editing app. But following the Fall Creator’s Update, there is now one included in the Microsoft Photos app, only if you know where to look for it.

Microsoft launched Story Remix in May 2017. This is a new video editor. It not just lets us make simple home videos. Story Remix would allow users to combine video clips and photos with virtual 3D objects created in Remix3D.

Story Remix, however, turned into a less ambitious tool when Windows 10 Fall Creator’s Update rolled around. It became more like the late Windows Movie Maker. The app lets users organize media in a timeline. It can also apply special effects and transitions. This can set the whole thing to music and 3D animation (but not objects).

Said to be originally planned to be released on its own. But Microsoft chose to add it to existing Photos app.

How To Find It And Create A Video

Here are instructions on how to find it so you can create a video:

1) Choose your files.
2) Arrange and trim video clips.
3) Add titles and motion effects.
4) Apply filters and 3D effects.
5) Change the music.
6) Save and share your video.

The free video editor may have been discontinued but the new Story Remix is a better update from Microsoft. A word of caution though. Windows Movie Maker is no longer available for download.

Websites that offer free downloads of Movie Maker are not offering the real thing. Those downloads may contain malware, viruses, or hidden costs.

Instead, try making movies through the Photos app that comes with Windows 10. The latest version of the Photos app includes the ability to create and edit videos and music. It can also edit text, motion, filters, and 3D effects.

So before trying out something new, better check first if it is authentic. Be updated with the latest trends in whatever field you are interested in. This way you will be aware of what to be on the look out for.

Xiaomi unveils their first ever gaming laptop and it packs quite a punch with its features.

Chinese consumer electronic giant Xiaomi just announced their first foray into the gaming world by launching the Mi Gaming Laptop. It debuted alongside the Mi MIX 2S earlier this week.

Touted to be a gaming notebook that’s portable, the Mi Gaming Laptop is only 20.9mm thick. But don’t let the skinny build fool you as it is actually a good contender among other premium gaming laptops.

So what exactly are the specs?

It has 15.6-inch full HD screen and a dedicated Nvidia GTX 1060 graphics card with a 6GB GDDR5 RAM. The screen supports 178-degree of viewing angles and has a professional RGB-backlit keyboard with five-programmable keys.

The machine runs on a 7th-generation Intel Core 7 processor, a 16GB DDR4 RAM, a 256GB solid-state drive, and 1TB of hard disk storage.

There isn’t a shortage of connectivity ports either. It comes with USB 3.0 ports, a USB Type-C port, HDMI 2.0, Ethernet, and microphone and headphone jacks. The top-end variant is priced at CNY 8,999 or about $1430.

If you think the price is too much and you’d be happy with a less-powerful-but-still-good gaming laptop, Xiaomi has got you covered.

They announced a second variant that comes with Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti with 4GB GDDR5 RAM and a 128GB SSD. It runs on an Intel Core i5 processor and has 1TB hard disk storage. This low-end variant comes with a CNY 5,999 or $955 price tag.

Both laptops will go on sale next month. Unfortunately, there is no word yet as to whether they will be available outside the China market. We will just have to wait and see!

YouTube TV announces their partnership with NBA and becomes the first-ever presenting sponsor of the 2018 NBA Finals.

After dominating the online video streaming world for years, YouTube wants to do the same with sports TV streaming services through YouTube TV.

This week, the Google-acquired website announced that they have just signed a multi-year partnership with NBA to help promote their new streaming TV service. The deal makes them the first-ever presenting sponsor of the 2018 NBA Finals.

You’ll be sure to see them more as the game will be referred to as “The Finals presented by YouTube TV”. They will get on-air callouts and will be all-over NBA’s social media and digital assets. The YouTube TV logo will of course, be featured on the court and in the arena.

The deal also makes YouTube TV the presenting sponsor of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) Finals. The NBA’s minor league and the NBA G League are also covered.

The online-streaming giant has definitely been busy as of late. Because this is the not the only deal they have struck in the sports industry just this year.

YouTube has forged a similar deal with the Major League Baseball and announced the addition of the MLB Network on their streaming services earlier this month. With this deal in place, they will again serve as the “presenting” sponsor of the World Series for two more years.

They will also debut a season-long sponsorship called “First Pitch”. This will feature YouTube TV branding during the first pitch of the games on both MLB Network and MLB.tv. Their social media channels will also be dominated by the YouTube TV brand.

As part of their new suite of apps and experiences targeted to the educational sector, Apple announced that they are increasing the standard 5GB free iCloud storage to 200GB for students.

“iCloud safely stores students’ documents and creative projects, keeping them up to date, secure and accessible from any device,” Apple said in a statement. “And starting today, any teacher or student with a Managed Apple ID has access to 200GB of free iCloud storage.”

This is to enable students to fully maximise the use of their iPads while being able to store their assignments, resources and other documents in the cloud.

The higher-capacity storage is also meant to be used with Classroom and the Schoolwork app. This will allow teachers to handout assignments and materials to students including notes, PDF documents, and web links. Teachers can also monitor the progress and completed assignments can be submitted through the app.

The Schoolwork app is set to be released in June of this year. Classroom, their device management app, has already been around for two years. However, Apple will be announcing a newer version that supports Mac in June.

For the general consumers, free iCloud storage is still at 5GB. Those who want to have 200GB will have to shell out $2.99 per month. We’re hoping however that Apple will eventually change their mind and give 200GB to everybody. Perhaps in the coming WWDC in June?
