It is much easier and simpler to just command Alexa than having to open an app. You can also do this on the Alexa app through your smartphone. Just sign into it using your login details then set it as your default.

Television Streaming

Amazon allowed users to control their Fire TV devices using an Amazon Echo. This allows you to open a specific streaming app. It can also play specific content through searching by titles, actors, or genres.

General Playback Information

You can connect your Echo to an external bluetooth speaker. That is, if you want to improve its sound quality. This can be done through your Alexa app’s settings menu.

You can also use your smart speaker to control your Sonos devices. If you are using an Amazon Echo Dot or a 2017 Echo, you can just connect them to your external speaker using the 3.5 mm jack.

You can use voice control over the music you are playing. No need for you to rely on physical controls on your device.

These are some skills and tricks Alexa can do for you. These tips are helpful to make your day-to-day activities faster, easier, and more convenient.

Just Say No: Listserv Confirmation Email Pioneer Reinvents Self

0

The world of email marketing changed much when Eric Thomas, an engineering student in Paris pioneered Listserv in 1986. Listserv automated the management of email lists and allowed list owners to create templates and customize replies to subscribers based on specific commands. In 1987, database functions were added which allowed users to search the database. Listserv was also very ethical; giving the subscriber the right to unsubscribe anytime. By 2001, it had surpassed over 100M subscribers and managed over 170,000 email lists. Up until 1993, it was released as a freeware and even now, could still be downloaded free for a maximum of 10 lists with up to 500 subscribers.

L Soft, the company founded by Eric Thomas, released the paid version that included more management tools. Through the years, it incorporated email tracking, customized reporting, built-in antivirus capability, analytics, email marketing, hosting, and integration with emerging social media platforms, especially on content creation; all the while respecting privacy and the freedom of choice.

“In 1993, LISTSERV was the first software to introduce double opt-in, which becomes the global gold standard for permission email. Double opt-in protects subscribers by requiring them to confirm their subscriptions before being added to a mailing list.” – L Soft site

However, other entities were not as stringent and by 2008, spam plagued the online world reaching an all-time high of 92.6% of email worldwide. Despite tighter controls on permissions, the worldwide scam rate was still at an appalling 59.8% two years ago. Just how big is this? As reported by the Radicati Group the volume of spam and unwanted email has risen to 32 Billion email users globally. Just imagine, the distress and anxiety over receiving these annoyances; and the fear that these carry with it malware that can retrieve confidential personal information.

With an eye to take the lead in email marketing while keeping it safe, ethical, as well as more responsive and profitable, Listserv reinvented itself with new features over 30 years after its initial launch – or 25 years after it introduced permission email.

“Successful mass communication is ethical: It comes from a sender-subscriber relationship based on strong prior consent. Eric Thomas, L-Soft’s CEO, invented automated subscription confirmation to prevent unreliable email addresses from being added to an email list. This also protects the list and its subscribers from fraudulent subscriptions and puts permission in the hands of the recipient, where it belongs.” — Outi Tuomaala, L-Soft’s EVP ( in Newswire)

Currently, Listserv, Listserv Lite, Listserv Free, and Listserv Maestro can be downloaded from the site. Apart from the email list software, L-Soft products include email hosting (ListPlex®), and email marketing (Maestro Add-On). Competitive Features of Listserv include:

  • Integrated Virus protection
  • Double opt-in support
  • Automatic email handling
  • Web integration
  • Support for all list types
  • Automatic Bounce Handling
  • Security options
  • Message posting
  • Message scheduling
  • Content Analysis
  • Newsletter Template Gallery
  • Customizable Mail templates and styles
  • Attachment and content filter
  • Subscriber activity reports
  • CSV reports
  • List reports
  • Moderation sharing
  • Full RSS support and others that increase engagement.

Because of the backlash from users complaining about the incessant deluge of unwanted mail, digital marketers are now more compliant about requesting consent and observing data privacy; including the user’s right to prevent the sale of any information to a third. Consent is now a primary gateway especially in the age of fraud, phishing, and other cyber crimes. Listserv is now at the forefront of all these cautioning users to:

  • be explicit about subscriber opt-in
  • set specific expectations about content that will be received
  • confirm that the subscription was initiated by the subscriber and
  • reassure subscribers that they can opt-out anytime.

OnePlus 6 to have a notch, report says

The Verge reported earlier this week that OnePlus 6 would have the notch design. Such detail was disclosed by Carl Pei, the OnePlus’ co-founder. Thus, it is clear now that OnePlus smartphones have now bigger screen display.

“What you are essentially doing is moving the entire notification bar up, giving users more content on their screen,” Pei said as quoted saying in The Verge report.

The OnePlus co-founder claims that the notch design of OnePlus 6 is unique. He emphasized that the notch’s design is tailored fit in the smartphone. Pei also pointed out that OnePlus won’t be going to Essential notch as this would compromised other physical features of the phone.

OnePlus 6

This includes the earpiece, front camera, proximity sensors and LED notification light, among others. In terms of phone’s back part, OnePlus has opted to go back to the classic design. This means that OnePlus users should expect the material is wood.

In fact, a leaked photo of what appears to be OnePlus 6 has surfaced online. The OnePlus 6 purported photo was leaked by @evleaks, a popular tech tipster and leakster. The leaked photo, however, did not show that OnePlus 6 is made of wood. One details that would make users happy is that OnePlus retains the 3.5mm headphone jack.

A closer look of the purported OnePlus 6 revealed that a different placement for its fingerprint and dual-cameras. What could be seen in the leaked photo is that the fingerprint sensor is mounter at the rear of the camera. This placement is similar to Samsung Galaxy S9+. All of these remains speculations but all the given features of the phone suggest that OnePlus 6 is an exact copy of OPPO R15.

Nintendo: Stop Using Third-party Nintendo Switch Chargers

Nintendo Switch

Several Nintendo Switch owners have complained of losing they’re save date on their consoles. This unanticipated problem has occurred after they used third-party charging adapters. Thus, the results, some Nintendo Switch owners were reportedly breaking their gaming consoles.

Why you need to stop using third-party Nintendo Switch chargers?

But the use of third-party charging adapters is not yet conclusive in this case. As some various owners ok Nyko’s Switch dock has also encountered several errors. Kotaku earlier reported that after Nyko has updated the firmware to 5.0 version, the console has started to act up.

A barrage of complaints could be found on Reddit, GameFAQs, and GBATemp, respectively. And here’s another Switch owner’s experienced about this unfortunate console problem.

Though the problem has surfaced, it’s still unclear whether Nyko’s dock is correlated with the experience of the above-mentioned Switch owner. We learned, however, that it is not just Nyko’s dock encountered the same problem.

What we learned so far is that this could be either an issue of using third-party Switch chargers, or perhaps not at all. Some console owners say that this has also a possible issue with the firmware. Upon learning this problem, Nintendo has stated to clear this problem.

“Unlicensed products and accessories do not undergo Nintendo’s testing and evaluation process. They might not work at all with our game systems, and they could have compatibility problems with certain games, the Nintendo Switch system itself, and other licensed accessories and peripherals,” Nintendo told Kotaku in a statement.

A bigger Apple Watch Series 4 may be released later this year and will boast a better battery life.

It seems only a short while ago that the Apple Watch Series 3 came out and here we already have rumours for its predecessor. But with the very competitive smartwatch market, it’s not really a surprise, isn’t it?

As this news is unconfirmed, it is always best to be taken with a pinch of salt. But with word coming from someone who has a good track record of predicting Apple’s next product moves, we’re hoping there’s a lot of truth to this one.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that the Cupertino-based company is planning to debut a redesigned Apple Watch with the Series 4 later this year. For all generations, Apple Watch has come in either 38mm or 42mm display. This time, he believes it will have a 15% larger display. The watch will also have better health monitoring functions and a bigger battery.

He also believes a combination of a ‘more trendy from factor design’ and the addition of new sensors beyond heart rate monitoring will help boost sales.

The report doesn’t go much into detail but we can think of some possibilities for its debut.

September 2017 was the release date of the 3rd generation Apple Watch. The Series 2 was also released on the same month a year earlier. Given this, we can assume that the latest iteration of the smartwatch will be announced in September of this year.

No details has come out with regards to the pricing just yet. Most likely it will be around the same as the Apple Watch 3 currently is at $329.

Keep a lookout for more updates!

With this, Apple users should expect that the Apple Watch Series 3 is expected to arrive in stores by April 5. In Thailand, the LTE connectivity would allow for Apple Watch Series 3 would be provided by a local cellular network operator TrueMove H.

In case you don’t know, TrueMove H is actually one of Thailand’s top cellular providers. Though it may not have a solid customers base to provide the LTE availability still, it would reach iPhone users in specific areas. Other telecommunication companies such as Advanced Info Service (AIS) and Total Access Communication (DTAC) have to wait until such time Apple inked an agreement with these carriers.

Recently, the company’s regional storefront has announced that it has updated in preparation for the planned sales date. iPhone users could now select for GPS + Cellular Apple Watch Series 3 models. These devices are now live, and the expected delivery dates are estimated between three to five days, respectively.

Huawei unveiled their $195 wireless earphones and they are very similar to Apple’s AirPods.

(Credit: The Verge)

If you think you’re seeing double at first glance, don’t worry, we did too. That’s because Huawei’s wireless earphones are very similar to the AirPods.

When Huawei launched their latest flagship phone, the P20, they also launched what seems to the be the most expensive AirPods rip-off just yet. They are called the FreeBuds. And they come in black.

The one noticeable difference is their in-ear design with the silicone tips. According to the company, this is actually for better noise cancellation. The guys from the Verge were able to try on the FreeBuds and noted that they’re comfortable and fit well. They did not allow any listening so the quality still remains to be seen.

The FreeBuds cost $195 which is slightly cheaper than the AirPods. They also come with a carrying case that provides extra charges for the earphones. Apparently they last for 10 hours of playback on a single charge. This is double than the 5 hours than Apple’s wireless earphones offer.

Other differences include a slightly longer and flatter stem. They are also have a horizontal orientation when put away in the case (compared to Apple’s vertical ones) and you have the option to get the black coloured ones.

What do you think? Would you choose these over the AirPods?

Firefox Add-On Protects You From Facebook Tracking

Firefox Facebook Container Add-On

If you’re still worried about Facebook keeping tabs on your online activities, Firefox has a solution for you.

Whether we like it or not, Facebook is a huge presence in the online universe. Basically, their business model relies on the ad profiles they build based on users like us. Mozilla is looking to help curb that with their Firefox browser add-on.

The Facebook Container is a browser extension that separates your Facebook session with the rest of your online activities.

Once you install the extension, it will automatically delete your Facebook cookies and logs you out of the social network. When you log in again, the site will open in a blue-coloured “container” tab.

Mozilla's latest browser add on - Facebook Container
(Credit: Mozilla)

When you click on a link that takes you out of Facebook, the link will open in a new tab not connected to that Facebook session.

Similarly, when you browse on the internet and click the Facebook share button from that website, these will also be loaded in the blue-coloured browser tab. This prevents Facebook from collecting data on what sites you visit, and targeting you with ads and other messages.

This maybe a good alternative to deleting your Facebook page entirely.

To install the extension, click the three-line menu button and choose Add-ons. In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Get Add-ons panel. Search for Facebook Container in the search bar and click on the install button.

With the recent issue that Facebook is facing, their presence has been magnified ten-fold and not in a positive way. More and more people are becoming aware (and even scared) of how the business runs. Mozilla is capitalising on this fear and promoting Firefox while helping people out too. Pretty smooth move I should say.
