Earlier this week, Qualcomm has announced the launching of its new chip called Snapdragon XR1. The company said that its Snapdragon XR1 is designed specifically for standalone augmented reality and virtual reality devices.

The chipmaking giant has announced this ahead of this week’s slated Augmented World Expo in Santa Clara, California. However, the company did not reveal more details about the new SoC as of press time. Qualcomm further said that the SoC would use a Kryo CPU and Adreno GPU, both of which are known as Qualcomm chips.

The only thing that differs between the Kryo CPU and Andreno GPU is that the rest of the XR1’s building blocks as to how it would be configured is not clear yet. Having said that, the chipmaking giant is actually slotting the XR1 below its existing Snapdragon 845.



In case you don’t know, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 is a popular chip that powers all highest-end smartphones. This is regarding the chip ’s memory bandwidth and GPU power. Not only that, the chip is aiming for XR1 devices at “lean back” experiences like 360-degree video viewing, among others.



Despite this, the company claims that the XR1 could produce an output video of up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. With such configuration, it would keep the motion-to-photon latency “well below” 20 milliseconds.
