GoPro Launches Trade-Up Program To Swap Old Cameras For Discounts

GoPro is willing to take your old digital camera and turn it into $50 or $100 with its Trade-Up Program.

Last year, GoPro launched a similar program but limited it to buying GoPro-branded cameras. The program was also short-lived, lasting only 60 days. According to the company, 12,000 cameras were traded in despite the limited time offer.

This time, the action camera maker is not giving an end date or a brand limit to their Trade-Up Program.

The deal applies to both older GoPros as well as “any other digital camera.” The camera however, has to have an original retail value of at least $100 to be part of the trade-in. The camera can also be in any condition, or even if it is no longer working.

Currently, the Trade-Up Program is only available in the US. It applies for purchases of GoPro flagships, including the Hero6 Black and the Fusion. To start, customers can visit GoPro’s program page and choose their new camera.

Meghan Laffey, senior vice president of product at GoPro, explains the program in a statement. “The Trade-Up program is a great way for our fans and customers to upgrade to our newest products and experience how fun and convenient GoPro has become.”

This is most likely GoPro’s way of addressing something that we already all know. Their products are so good and sturdy, that there is little reason to upgrading them. With this incentive, the company is hoping to attract more people in upgrading their devices.
