BlackBerry outage

BlackBerry service was down for some hours

Research In Motion said that BlackBerry users might have been struggling to connect to their BlackBerry Internet Service a couple of days ago.

BlackBerry CEO Thornsten Heins said that about 60% of their subscribers could have possibly been affected, but final figures as to the extent of the outage are still unknown.

Heins apologized for the service outage, but analysts have aired their sentiments saying that this just adds more bad rep to Research In Motion and might even be used as a reason for BlackBerry owners to jump ship and move on to another platform.

Heins said in a statement, “I want to apologize to those BlackBerry customers in Europe and Africa who experienced an impact in their quality of service early this morning. The BlackBerry service is now fully restored and I can report that no data or messages were lost. Preliminary analysis suggests that those customers may have experienced a maximum delay of 3 hours in the delivery and reception of their messages.”

This comes in the heels of the release of the latest operating system by RIM, which they hope it could be their great boost, as the company tries to bounce back after abysmal performance of the past few years.
