Enough of those paper tickets. It’s time for us to be green, as technology is constantly evolving, to allow us to discard of the paper and move on to digital age of paper.

Amtrak is going to unveil their latest eTicket program that enables commuters to ride their trains only with a swipe of their phones.

According to Amtrak president and CEO Joe Boardman, “eTickets deliver the convenience and flexibility expected by passenger and its innovative technology is transforming other aspects of how Amtrak does business.”

You can now buy your Amtrak tickets online, on your mobile device or the Amtrak iPhone app. Once you were able to purchase the ticket, you’ll receive the ticket attachment in PDF format. They then present this PDF attachment to the train conductor and scan it to check the validity of the eTicket.

What’s good about an eTicket is that if you unfortunately lose your mobile phone, then you can open your email from another computer and print your ticket.

Amtrak say that the eTicket “quickly exceeded expectations as rapid adoption by passengers resulted in shorter line at ticket counters, less tickets sold onboard trains and fewer claims of lost tickets.”
