Yup, it seems like the folks at Twitter have finally decided that it IS time for the website to make money.
Today, Twitter founder Biz Stone announced on the site’s official blog that they’ve changed their “terms of service”, expanding it to allow advertisers to reach the site’s more than 45 million users.
“We leave the door open for advertising. We’d like to keep our options open, as we’ve said before,” he wrote.
Advertising allows websites to generate revenue while still remaining free to use for consumers.
The terms now read:
“The services may include advertisements, which may be targeted to the content or information on the services, queries made through the services, or other information.”
But terms of service also indicates that is not permanent and may be changed.
“The types and extent of advertising by Twitter on the services are subject to change.”
