Why women check social media more than men

If you’re a social media holdout, you are an increasingly rare breed. D.C.-based business news and how-to website The Manifest says 86 percent of Americans now use social media every day. Women are more likely than men to check in repeatedly throughout the day. Facebook remains the most-used social media channel, but The Manifest says use of other social platforms is growing faster, particularly YouTube and Instagram. Nearly two-thirds of social media consumers report they are using YouTube and Instagram more this year than they were last year, compared to 52 percent of Facebook users who said so.

REPORT: APPLE TO TAKE A BITE OUT OF NETFLIX AND AMAZON BY MAKING ITS CONTENT FREE FOR DEVICE OWNERS

In a move that appears to take a page from Amazon’s Prime playbook and one-up it by removing price as an entry barrier, Apple reportedly plans to offer completely free of charge at least some of the content it’s developing for its long-awaited streaming service — so long, that is, as you’re a part of Apple’s device ecosystem. Citing unnamed inside sources, CNBC reports that Apple plans to feature its launch-day streaming content at no cost for Apple device owners, who would access the platform via a dedicated app icon in much the same fashion as they currently access iTunes or the App Store.

Oculus Co-Founder’s Departure Could Mean Bad Things for Facebook VR

Facebook made a splashy entrance into VR when it purchased fledgling startup Oculus back in 2014 for $2.3 billion. However, even after putting out the first consumer-ready Oculus Rift in 2016, which was followed up by this year’s Oculus Go and the upcoming Oculus Quest, today’s departure of Oculus co-f0under and former CEO Brendan Iribe casts doubts on the future of Facebook’s VR efforts.

‘Ghostbusters World’ combines ‘Pokémon Go’ and turn-based battles

Ghostbusters World is a mobile game from Ghost Corps — the Sony company that “owns” Ghostbusters — and South Korean game developer [4:33]. The developer is no stranger to big-name franchise games, and released DC Unchained earlier this year. Here, however, the company has sought to bolt the franchise onto something more successful: Pokémon Go. It won’t take players long to spot the number of similarities between Ghostbusters World and Pokémon Go, surely the apex predator of GPS-based mobile AR games. In Go, users wander around their locale catching monsters Pokéballs. In World, players wander around catching ghosts with their Proton Packs and Ghost Traps. Both games can be played in either a simulated environment or using your phone’s camera for augmented reality, too.

Oculus Adds ‘Privacy Center’ To Comply EU Data Collection Policy

Oculus is now complying the data protection rules issued by the European Union. The Facebook-owned virtual reality company  will be releasing more detailed policies and a privacy center which will be launched on May 20.

Oculus said that a privacy center is a place where users can actually check all the data that Oculus has collected from them. However, Oculus pointed out that the update would take a little bit longer.

 

The company’s new terms of service were published on April 20, but it would take effect come May 20. Oculus is also planning to expand its terms of service that would cover augmented reality.

 

Reports claim that tech companies are now adapting the General Data Protection Regulation which obliges these companies to set a higher standard for collecting information from the users.

 

And Oculus’ privacy center is actually a response of the company to GDPR. “Our practices are not changing concerning how we use data today. We just include more transparency,” Oculus associate general counsel Jenny Hall said in a statement.

 

This means that Facebook-owned virtual reality company will be adding existing code of conduct to its terms of service, “to provide increased visibility of our commitment to creating a safe VR environment for all people.”

 

Apart from this, Oculus is also planning to revisit its privacy policy even with social media giant Facebook. The plan to move ahead was a result of the data mess controversy between Facebook and Cambridge Analytica. The controversy includes the improper use of the data of 87 million individuals targeted for political ads.

 

 

Oculus Go: Headset Pops Up At the FCC With Two Models

The Oculus Go headset is closer to its target for the 2018 launch date. This was revealed when an FCC listing hinted that a new standalone headset would be a reality. Although we don’t have an official detail yet about the Oculus Go but certainly the recent news is interesting enough.

 

Oculus Go: Specs, Features, and Price

 

 

Based on the FCC listing which was spotted by Mobielkopen, a German tech website, there will be two models of Oculus Go. The tech site described the two models are identical to one of its key features-memory.

 

The Oculus Go’s first model under the name MH-A32 features a 32GB of memory while the other, MH-A64 will have 64GB. This means that the higher the memory, users can actually store more games and applications compared to a 32 GB memory.

It is not yet clear until now if Oculus Go will have an expandable memory with an SD card. The company has yet to confirm if the listing is true and if, it plans to launch two versions of the device. What is certain now is that the FCC listing revealed that Oculus Go would be sold to the public.

 

Regarding price, the MH-A32 model is expected to be sold for an entry price of $199 which was announced last year’s Oculus Connect. While the 64GB version will be sold at a higher price.

 

Also, one of the features of the device is its three degrees of three (3DOF) tracking. The said feature allows users to look around and tilt their head via a Virtual Reality environment. The VR environment is only possible if you wear Gear VR.
