Samsung’s 8K QLED TV looks great, but who needs it?

Samsung’s 8K ambitions became a bit more real today with the announcement of the Q900R, its first 8K QLED set that you’ll be able to buy. It’s the company’s follow-up to the Q9S concept we saw at CES, complete with the same AI processing to upscale content into something resembling 8K. That feature is particularly important, since it gives Samsung a reason to deliver an 8K TV before there’s any real content available. Based on my short time ogling the Q900R at Samsung’s IFA booth, it certainly looks great. But at the end of the day, I wonder who really needs it.

We don’t know any hardware specifics just yet, only that it sports a unique display frame that enables you to “flip” the screen 180 degrees.

LEGO built a life size, drivable Bugatti from over a million Technic pieces

Built partly as a passion project amongst Lego’s creative team and partly as a promo to show off at the Italian Grand Prix, the model’s final piece count clocks in at over one million Technic pieces.

Acer Chromebook 15 (2017) Review

Acer Chromebook 15 official review released

Acer Chromebook 15 is the only 15-inch sized Chromebook on the market. That’s why people tend to ask, “What if it were bigger?” That laptop was ultimately outclassed by more powerful or versatile Chromebooks. But Acer has revised the Chromebook 15 with a more premium aluminum design and better battery life.

There are lots of high-end laptops in the market. With their latest Intel processors, memory, and high-resolution screens that can compete with Windows and Apple laptops out there. Unfortunately, the $399-Chromebook 15 isn’t one of them. Its specs are the 1.1GHz quad-core Intel Premium processor, 4GB RAM and 32GB internal storage.

The company added another $100 dollars for the newest Chromebook 15. With the previous versions of the Chromebook at $299, that means you’re paying a larger amount for its additional specs. So, you’re actually paying for its metal case, extra battery, and bumped up processor.

The aluminum case of the Chromebook 15 is one of the biggest changes to the laptop.

The lid and palm rests are now made from metal instead of plastic. But the bottom of the laptop is a soft, rubber-coated plastic. The Chromebook 15 is somehow heavy and you may have a hard time opening the lid because usually it results to lifting the entire laptop.

Now, as for the screen, it’s just average. The 15.6-inch display is present as promised. But resolution is still stuck 1080p and stretching 1920×1080 pixels across the screen. The large screen makes text look almost blurry and rough around the edges. On top of that, the screen itself is dull in both brightness and color.

The connectivity feature of the Chromebook 15 may put Apple’s Macbook Pro line or Microsoft’s Surface Laptop to shame. It’s because the Chromebook has two USB-C that you may both use to charge the laptop. Two USB 3.0 ports and a MicroSD card slot.

Yes, the Chromebook 15 is much bigger but bigger doesn’t actually mean better. Well, actually all gadgets have flaws. But these tech giants are making sure to give us a new and better gadgets in the future.

Acer Chromebook 11: Laptop Adds USB-C, But Doesn’t Fix The Screen

The Acer Chromebook 11 has been one of the best laptops that offers a low price for tech users who have a tight budget. In fact, the company’s Chromebook 11 is the best option for students because it consumes less power.

Acer Chromebook 11: Price, Specs, Features and Release Date

This year’s CES, Acer is planning to release two different models of its Chromebook product line-up. These are the Chromebook 11 C311-8H and C311-8HT. The Chromebook 11 C311-8H is a non-touch model while the C311-8HT is a touch version model where users could interact on the screen.

While Acer’s new Chromebooks are a welcome development, the company also announced that it added a new port to enhance user’s productivity experience. Acer has added two USB-C ports on its latest Chromebooks models.

Having two USB-C ports would eventually allow users to use USB-C displays. Aside from this, they could also use the port to charge using a standardized USB-C charger. Such feature also allows quick-charging, especially on Android smartphones.

However, not all tech users are quite amazed at Acer’s announcement. They actually expressed disappointment upon learning that the company has done so little to improve the Chromebook’s display. The latest Chromebooks are still stuck with its 1366 x 768 resolution which is lower compared to the HD standards.

A lower resolution on Acer’s Chromebooks is viewed by many as the major setback for what supposed to be a classy, innovative and excellent laptop. Regarding specs, the company’s latest Chromebook 11 C311 would be powered by Intel’s latest Celeron chip.

And as expected, it will have either a 2GB or 4GB random access memory (RAM). About the laptop’s battery, Acer said the new Chromebooks would have a 10-hour battery life. The latest Chromebooks will be sold in March this year with an entry price of $249 for a 2GB non-touch model.

Acer: Record Your Gaming Experience While Playing

So, you’re playing a game and you had an outstanding game play that you want to brag to your friends — but, they’re not with you to see you play and you weren’t able to record your game. Bummer, right? Us gamers would want to do something about this downside of our gaming life.

Well, let me introduce to you a gadget which will be able to record all your games.

We have the Acer Iconia 1. This tablet has a built-in app called Acer Game Zone. It has a variety of games that you can choose from and it also has a recording feature. Yes fellow gamers! It can record our game play without having to download and install any application at all.

Let’s admit it. No matter how much we want to download application in order to record our games, we’re hesitant to download unknown apps because it might contain some viruses or we can even be hacked! I am honestly scared of these consequences myself. So why not find a safer way to save all our games to show our friends, right?

Almost all Acer tablets have this feature built-in but there are some which doesn’t have this built-in app. But don’t fret! You can still record your game. We can download it from Google Play Store (sorry OIS users T_T). You can find the link of this cool app below.

Need to have two numbers but hate the idea of having two devices to carry around with you wherever you go?

Acer would like to help you with this predicament, as the tech company announced that they are going to release a new Ice Cream Sandwich powered device, the Acer Liquid Gallant Duo.

The Acer Liquid Gallant Duo is a dual-SIM smartphone that belongs to the mid-level priced smartphone market. Though there have already been a number of dual-SIM devices out there, only a few are manufactured by premiere companies like Acer.

The Acer Liquid Gallant Duo enables you to have two SIM cards at once. The user can opt to use one from the other by simply switching from the latter and vice versa.

The Acer Liquid Gallant Duo has a 4.3 inch display screen and a 5 megapixel rear facing camera. It is also powered by a 1 GHz processor and has a 1 GB of RAM and a 4 GB of onboard storage that can be expanded to 32 GB via a micro SD card.

Nexus 7? Acer Iconia Tab A110 says “Challenge accepted”

True to the purpose of the Nexus name, the Nexus 7 has set the bar for any upcoming 7-inch Jelly Bean tablets in the pipeline. If the sales and demand of the Nexus 7 is anything to go by, it is pretty obvious that the formula just works, and works real well for the consumers.

For just $200, the consumer has access to a very powerful device. It provides the best bang for your buck at the moment, and it rocks the Nexus name, which means all updates are direct from Google, and they will be the first devices to receive the updates. It is also the first and only device to ship out with Android’s latest dessert named version, 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Despite the device’s popularity, it doesn’t go unscathed, as criticisms are also widespread about the Jelly Bean device. Not only it does not have an SD card slot, but it also works only with Wi-Fi as a source of data, which means taking it along with you to zero Wi-Fi zones means that you will lose pretty much half the purpose of the device, which centers around social media, cloud storage, and browsing ease.

In comes the Acer Iconia Tab A110, which is quite the mouthful by the way. It sets its sights on a post Nexus 7 world, but will it make the cut?

The Acer Iconia Tab A110 sports pretty much every feature that the Nexus 7 sports. We have a quad core Tegra 3 SOC, a 7 inch screen albeit with a lower 1024 x 600 pixel resolution,  the same basic connectivity options such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth with all the usual sensors, minus the Magnetometer as well as no mention of an NFC capability. The Acer Iconia Tab A110 beats the Nexus 7 front camera with a 2.0 megapixel one, but suffers a loss to the Nexus 7’s battery capacity.

What makes the Acer Iconia Tab A110 a viable opponent to the Google branded Nexus 7, is the fact that it has an option for mobile data connectivity, as well as a micro SD expansion slot, which are the main weaknesses of the popular tablet. Not to mention that if the rumors are to be believed, the Acer Iconia Tab A110 will sport a $200 price tag, which places the new tablet at a competitive price range.

It was originally announced to have Ice Cream Sandwich, but a recent press shot shows that it will possibly come with Jelly Bean right off the box. This puts the count of native Jelly Bean tablets to 2, which is an awesome development, especially if this will be ported to the rest of the Acer Iconia devices.

It looks like the Nexus 7 has fulfilled its purpose of setting the bar, and forcing manufacturers to rise to the challenge and put out their own low priced, high spec devices.

Windows 8 Intel Clover Trail SoC powered tablets coming to market

A number of tablet manufacturers are set to unveil their own Windows 8 tablets that will use Intel’s latest system-on-a-chip.

Both Hewlett-Packard and Acer are currently on the drawing table working on designs for their latest tablet according to CNET. The report also adds that Lenovo is also trying to develop a tablet which is going to use Intel’s Clover Trail SoC.

These tablets that will run on Windows 8 and Intel’s Clover Trail SoC are different from those that run on Windows RT tablets because the latter does not offer backward-compatibility with Windows software programs. The former has the ability to do just that.

According to Intel CEO Paul Otellini, “We are… tracking more than 20 Windows 8 tablet designs based on our low-power and low-cost Clover Trail Atom SoC in addition to a number of core-based tablets.”

If this is the case, then the tablet market looks crowded when these companies release their own versions of Windows 8 tablets that run on Intel’s new technology.

The Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 will have a 10.1 inch screen with a 1,366 x 768 screen resolution. It also features a n HSPA+ broadband option and only weighs 1.4 pounds.
