Nissan Leaf collides with self-driving Apple car in most futuristic crash ever

The incident happened in California, where a self-driving Lexus was moving slowly as it attempted to find an opening to merge onto a highway, Sunnyvale’s Lawrence Expressway. As it moved at approximately 1mph, it was struck by a Nissan Leaf (a popular model of electric car) which was travelling at 15mph.

Samsung might reveal a foldable phone in November

Waiting for Samsung’s foldable phone has been like waiting for the Yeti: You see a blurry, probably fake photo here and there, but the real thing never seems to show up. But this year might be different. This is according to Samsung’s CEO of mobile DJ Koh, who told CNBC that it’s “time to deliver” this long-awaited device.

Fortnite anti-gravity bug causes chaos at grand finals

Towards the final stages of the fourth match, in the midst of a tense battle, players began to experience an unusual floating feeling. Turns out, it wasn’t nerves – they were actually flying. The footage has been clipped on Twitch, and as you can see, it’s pretty weird.

Skype rolls back its redesign by ditching stories, squiggles and over-the-top color

Just over a year after Skype introduced a colorful, Snapchat-inspired makeover which included its own version of “stories,” the company says it’s now going to refocus on simplicity – and it’s ditching stories along the way. The redesign had been met with a lot of backlash. Skype had clearly wanted to appeal to a more youthful demographic with its update, but in doing so, it cluttered the user experience with features no one had asked for or needed.

Japan to conduct first test as part of space elevator project

A team of researchers from Japan’s Shizuoka University and other institutions will conduct the first test in space this month as part of a project to build a space elevator, Japan’s The Mainichi reported last week. The space elevator essentially ferries people and cargo shipments in an elevator car travelling on a cable connecting Earth to a space station.

Astronauts find hole in the International Space Station, plug it with thumb

You think you woke up on the wrong side of the bed today? Spare a thought for the crew aboard the International Space Station (ISS). On Thursday morning, they woke up to the news that the station was slowly leaking air. Flight controllers had been monitoring the small drop in pressure overnight, deciding to let the crew sleep as the hole presented no danger.

Will 2018 be the year small phones die?

Sony is perhaps the last bastion of smaller smartphones. Or at least, it used to be. For years now, Sony has been making “Compact” versions of its top-tier handsets that are more or less flagships in their own right. Each generation of Sony’s latest XZ series of phones hasn’t deviated from this tradition until IFA 2018, where Sony announced the new Xperia XZ3, but no XZ3 Compact. Has the appetite for smaller phones finally vanished? Or are manufacturers content to let the hungry starve either way?

Doom II’s final secret unlocked after 24 years

It took nearly 24 years for someone to discover how to unlock Doom II’s last remaining secret without using cheats. The feat, recently shared on YouTube by user Zero Master, has since been confirmed by John Romero, one of the game’s original programmers.

Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Glitch Discovers Unseen Area Where Water Turns To Lava

By executing a glitch during the game’s The Master Trials DLC, YouTube user Mety333 has found a way to explore new, unseen areas within the game. Of course, these areas were never intended to be seen by players or even function correctly as any part of natural gameplay, and this results in some very strange, creepy, but fascinating finds.

Playing as Magneto in Grand Theft Auto V is as awesome as it sounds

This new mod enables virtually every superpower Magneto possesses. You can fly, create a bullet shield and pull off various melee attacks but the real fun, of course, involves manipulating the environment around you. Taking command of cars and creating a metal storm is easy. Pull lampposts and wind turbines from the ground and hurl them at innocent bystanders. Heck, you can even snatch a plane out of the sky and thrust it at a helicopter or derail a train.

THE (SOMETIMES DANGEROUS) POWER OF THE VIDEO GAME COMMUNITY

In the ‘90s and early aughts, the relationship between those who made video games and those who bought and played them had a very clear beginning and end. Publishers and studios would work together to push a game out, consumers would buy the game (or rent it, which was often the case), play it, and that was essentially that. There was no Beta, no external feedback, and little transparency from behind the scenes. The game was done, the transaction made, and you liked it or you lumped it.

Wireless headphones are improving faster than anything else in tech

If you’re in the market for new wireless headphones, IFA 2018 has been an absolute treat for you. If, on the other hand, you just bought a pair, well… this is going to be an upsetting read. Let’s take each new change in turn.

Samsung’s 8K QLED TV looks great, but who needs it?

Samsung’s 8K ambitions became a bit more real today with the announcement of the Q900R, its first 8K QLED set that you’ll be able to buy. It’s the company’s follow-up to the Q9S concept we saw at CES, complete with the same AI processing to upscale content into something resembling 8K. That feature is particularly important, since it gives Samsung a reason to deliver an 8K TV before there’s any real content available. Based on my short time ogling the Q900R at Samsung’s IFA booth, it certainly looks great. But at the end of the day, I wonder who really needs it.

7 Ways Technology is Driving Down Operations Costs

0

Technology is affecting business more than ever in today’s digital world. Companies that understand this can adapt and put themselves into positions to lead their markets. So don’t miss out on the benefits technology has to offer. Consider the following ways that technology is helping businesses drive their operating costs way down:

Robotic Process Automation

RPA (Robotic Process Automation) is a type of software, or bot, that mimics the often repetitive tasks that employees typically take on themselves. By utilizing Robotic Process Automation, businesses can have their teams focus less on repetitive tasks and more on the higher level thinking that often leads to innovation and growth.

Marketing Automation

Technology is assisting marketers in dealing with higher level concepts. By automating smaller tasks like A/B testing, they can put more focus on their market. The end result is better customer outcomes and sales. Create opportunities to listen to customers whether that is through new software or other interactions.

Social Media Scheduling

If you’re not social media scheduling, then you are wasting time. Don’t manually send out tweets anymore. Instead, use free or cheap apps to schedule them in advance to reach visitors at the critical times.

Customer Engagement

Keeping your customers engaged is priority number one today. Today, people are so distracted that if you don’t have something special they might just keep browsing past your offer. Animation software is allowing advertisers to catch attention faster than ever before. There are other ways to engage with your customers. Use retail software platforms to help segment email marketing campaigns or other marketing campaigns. Interact with customers through these platforms and show them they are more than just interchangeable parts.

Behavioral Trends

Knowing what your customers are doing is key to selling more to them and driving down costs. When you understand how to be more efficient with delivering value, you can reduce labor, hard costs, and overall waste.

Product Prediction

Manufacturing products become very expensive in no time if you don’t have a solid plan. By analyzing big sets of data, companies are now able to draw out critical insights into their market. They can predict the right time to roll out a new product, which prices are most likely to be successful, and even what packing to consider.

Supply Chain Optimization

Getting your product from the factory into the inventory storage warehouse is a hassle. Furthermore, you might be overstocking, leading to higher charges. By timing your shipments better, you can cut costs of storage and increase supply chain efficiency. A key part of collecting and using data is to improve your data intelligence. Orbit Reporting + Analytics says making your business intelligent is key to maximizing efficiency every step of the way. You can only find major issues in your process through data analysis.

In business, you need to manage your income and your expenses. While income is taken care of with more sales, you can’t get more profit if your costs are out of control. The examples above show just how powerful technology can be in driving your costs down so you can enjoy more profits and peace of mind at the same time.

Bad North is a minimalistic, real-time tactics roguelite where you defend a series of small islands from hordes of Viking invaders. Overwatch Pulls Loot Boxes in Belgium After They Were Declared Gambling

From Blizzard…

In April 2018, the Belgian Gaming Commission published a report that was endorsed by the Belgian Ministry of Justice in which they concluded that paid loot boxes in Overwatch are considered gambling under local law. While we at Blizzard were surprised by this conclusion and do not share the same opinion, we have decided to comply with their interpretation of Belgian law. As a result, we have no choice but to implement measures that will prevent Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm players located in Belgium from purchasing in-game loot boxes and loot chests with real money and gems.

No matter what, we want to make sure that our players around the world have the best entertainment experience possible. While players in Belgium will no longer be able to purchase paid loot boxes in Overwatch and loot chests in Heroes of the Storm, they’ll still be able to earn them by playing the games, and they’ll still have access to all in-game content.

These measures will be implemented shortly. We also remain open to further discussions with the Belgian Gaming Commission and Ministry of Justice on this topic.

What’s Going on with Oracle and Discoverer?

0

Oracle Discoverer has been discontinued, which means its users need to switch to an updated reporting platform. Orbit is a new tool that allows users to migrate from Oracle Discoverer for free in order to convert reports and not have to worry about losing data when making the switch. Orbit Analytics reports that “as of June 30, 2017, Oracle discontinued its extended support for Discoverer. And it’s been nearly a decade since Oracle has offered new features or product enhancements for it. Oracle will no longer provide bug fixes and patches, as well as certifications with Oracle products, web browsers, or operating systems.” It is essential to know what Oracle Discoverer is, what it is used for, and why it is important that they are discontinued.

Oracle Discoverer’s Past Services

Oracle Discoverer was a business support tool that gave users a set of query, analysis, publishing, and reporting tools in a way that is delivered in one Web-based interface, which made it user-friendly. According to BiTool.net, it allowed for accurate and faster decision making, and it made finding required data to be much more simplified. Oracle Discoverer was designed to give immediate access to data that was specific in a database. Users no longer needed to search entire databases for what they needed as this tool could access what they needed in just a few seconds with one click. Additionally, the use of Oracle Discoverer means that special IT experience was not necessary to prepare advanced reports because of its simplified, modifiable, and updateable reporting. In short, it was a complex tool that made the lives of people in business easier with data gathering, report sharing, and analysis.

Discontinuation

It has been over a decade since Oracle has released any significant updates or enhancements for Discoverer. Oracle Discoverer officially discontinued in June 2017, and it will not be providing any bug fixes or patches. The certifications with Oracle products, operations, and web browsers are also discontinued. It is important for Oracle Discoverer users to update to a new platform because they are currently putting themselves at risk by continuing to use technology that is dated, which means that they are at an increased risk for security threats and bugs that will make the tool unusable. Hubble explains that using Orbit’s free migration wizard with Oracle Discoverer will give users a smooth transition to a new reporting platform that will provide them with the support and updates that they need to continue to use the services they received with Oracle Discoverer.

Conclusion

Overall, users who are still using the Oracle Discoverer reporting platform are taking a risk with no longer being able to use the service as support has officially ended. Even one Internet browser update could result in users being cut off from the service. Excel4Apps suggests that this is why it is crucial to replace their Oracle Discoverer use with Orbit reporting, which will give them the easy transition that they need to continue using simplified business tools.

Microsoft announces All Access, a sweet Xbox financing plan with a not-so-sweet catch

Just a few days ago, we were hearing rumors about a service, called Xbox All Access, which would allow users to rent an Xbox One console for a monthly fee, getting access to the console itself as well as Xbox online services. Today we learned it’s very real, via a Microsoft blog post the company put up and swiftly deleted. It’s since moved the information to a new page on the main site.

All of the details reported earlier this month appear to be correct. For a monthly fee paid over the course of two years, you can essentially rent an Xbox One, with access to Game Pass and Xbox Live. The prices are $22 for a One S, and $35 for a One X. After the two year period, you own the console outright.

Donut County Review (PS4)

How many developers can say their game was inspired by a tweet from a parody Twitter account? Donut County’s central premise of controlling a hole in the ground and swallowing up objects is wonderfully novel, and has resulted in a game that’s more entertaining than you’d think. In the best possible way, it’s one of the silliest games on PS4, wrapping a truly daft story around a mechanic that’s a pleasure to toy with.
