Switch and Super Mario gave so much sales to Nintendo
Nintendo released their detailed financial performance for nine months that ended last December 2017. Last year was a big year for Nintendo because of the release of the top-rating games and consoles. The Switch, Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. But it was not even a surprise to have an increase in profit and sales.
The Figures
The sales for nine months were $7.9 billion and represents the increase of 176% compared to 2016. As for the profit, it reached $1.4 billion, which is 494% improvement from last year. What an incredible leap of figures it is! Nintendo complimented the Switch’s strong performance in hardware sales and said “(Switch) sold well following the launch and sales rose substantially during the holiday season.”
A total of 12.13 million units were sold for the Nintendo Switch. Not to mention the 2.74 million units sold on its launch month. It brought a lifetime Switch sales of 14.87 million units. This simply means that in the span of just 10 months, Nintendo Switch outsold the Wii U. But Nintendo has not yet given the figures for the Wii U which was in the market since 2012.
As for the software, the Super Mario Odyssey who also contributed in this success. Super Mario Odyssey sales reached 9 million units in just 9 months. Compared to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe that was launched last April 2017 and sold 7.3 million units. And the Splatoon 2 that reached 4.9 million units sold. According to Nintendo, eight Switch titles reach the million units sold mark the fiscal year. But those figures does not include games published by third parties. All in all, the total software sales were listed as 47 million units.
Nintendo surely gave us an amazing year last 2017 and hoping for more this year. There are a lot of upcoming launch for this year from Nintendo and expect more surprises and perks. What a happy new year it is for Nintendo!
