Cupertino-based Apple may have betrayed the trust of Apple customers. Earlier this week, Apple admitted that it slows the performance of older iPhones. The tech company claims that such plan was implemented a year ago. The reason: Apple implements such practice to compensate the iPhone’s battery degradation than pushing Apple users to immediately change their iPhones instantly.

On Wednesday, a developer at Geekbench named John Poole discovered that if Apple users are constantly changing iOS may cause the older Apple devices to slow down its performance. In his assessment of the iPhone’s performance and battery age, he claims that both were actually a problem among Apple devices.

Is Apple’s mobile iOS the culprit of battery degradation?

“First, it appears the problem is widespread, and will only get worse as phones (and their batteries) continue to age,” Poole said in a blog post. He tested various iPhone models: Apple iPhone 6, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7S Plus.

Poole particularly blamed the change in iOS to the iPhone’s faster battery degradation. He explained that the difference between Apple’s iOS 10.2.0 and 10.2.1 “is too abrupt to be just a function of battery condition.”

“I believe (as do others) that Apple introduced a change to limit performance when battery condition decreases past a certain point. Why did Apple do this? ,” he asked.

But Apple argued that there are several factors that can contribute faster to the iPhone’s battery degradation. This is but not limited to cold weather, low charge, and the natural way of battery degradation. Apple admitted that such policy was implemented to lessen the impact of battery degradation.

Meanwhile, Apple is using another strategy to engage with the Apple users who are hoping for an improved battery performance. The tech company could sell battery replacement kits to its global subscribers as one of the solutions to the problem.
