Instagram has been a very popular photo sharing app lately, with millions of users installing it on their iPhones and recently on their Android smartphones.
Its acquisition by Facebook for 1 billion dollars some months ago proves that it is a concept that is expected to become bigger in the future, possibly in the near one. According to TechCrunch, Instagram is testing on its expansion to the web, by making the necessary experiments on its webpage.
If you check its web page now, there are not much you can do. However, there is a page that leads to an error 404 page, which means that they are into a testing phase. They seem to be aware of the size of their power and that is why they are looking for ways to enlarge it through the web.
Kevin Systrom, the co-founder of Instagram, mentioned in his interview in Time Magazine about a possible web presence:
“We are fully sold on the fact that if we’re going to do big, meaningful stuff we need to take on networks. We believe mobile is that.
…You can’t take a desktop experience and shove it into a 3-by-4-in screen. It’s a very different behavior pattern. It’s a very different browse pattern. People interact with their phones very differently than they do with their PCs and I think that when you design from the ground up with mobile in mind, you create a very different product than going the other way.”
Until they do expand their online presence, you can check the website called “Webstagram” which does exactly the same job that Instagram plans to do on the Web.
