After releasing the BMW Z4: An Expression of Joy Lite, a free app that allows users to create works of art on a customizable BMW Z4 Roadster, the Bavarian automaker has launched its second app that’s unlike its useless casual brother, is actually useful.

The M Power application is an app for your iPhone or iPod Touch that measures vehicle acceleration using the device’s built-in accelerometer. When placed in a windshield mount or a cup holder or basically any place secure, the app is able to measure 0-60 mph times and can also measure forward and lateral G-forces.

If you don’t have a BMW car, don’t fret because the app isn’t picky. Although it is branded with the BMW M badge, the app works on basically any car, as long as you have an iPhone or a Touch.

Like BMW’s previous app, the M Power app is free and is available for download in the iTunes App Store.
