God of War Fans, THANK YOU!

It’s been a year since God of War was released, and the team at the Santa Monica Studio want to thank their fans.

In 2015, we celebrated the 10 year anniversary of God of War, having started the saga back in 2005. And, so, here we are reflecting on the one year anniversary of a new era for Kratos, now with his son, Atreus. When Cory Barlog first brought us this transformative vision of a father and son embarking on an incredible journey together, a journey to honor a wife and a mother… but also one where a boy would teach his father how to be human again; and the father (Kratos) would teach his son how to be a measured god, we knew we had something special for our fans. Yet, change is hard. Change to a longstanding franchise comes with immeasurable doubt, a studio defining risk and a huge leap of faith. Thank you to our entire worldwide team; the Sony PlayStation family and you, the millions of God of War fans around the world who embraced that leap with us, on a journey we never expected. We made this journey together.

You can read the entire post on the PlayStation Blog, along with the video they have included (or just click play on the video above). According to the rest of the post, and as reference above, they have something special in store for us…

Today kicks off a week-long celebration where they will be releasing a God of War Anniversary character PS4 avatar set (coming out on Wednesday) and a PS4 dynamic theme. Just search for ‘God of War’ in the PlayStation store. Both are being released for free, regardless of whether you have purchased the game or not.

I, personally, thoroughly enjoyed this game and am excited for the next chapter to come out! Great job again guys and great work, keep it up!

Samsung’s curved 49-inch gaming monitor now comes in QHD resolution

CES 2019 is just a few days away, but Samsung is getting an early start with some new monitors, including the CRG9, an upgraded version of Samsung’s massive 49-inch desktop monitor that now offers even higher resolution. The old CHG90 model offered a mere 3840 x 1080 resolution, which is equivalent to two 16:9, 1920 x 1080 displays mashed together. But with the CRG9, Samsung is bumping that up to QHD, with 32:9 aspect ratio and 5120 x 1440 resolution display, which is essentially two 2560 x 1440 QHD screens mashed together.

A New Game Console Is On The Way To Compete With PlayStation And Xbox

Slightly Mad Studios CEO Ian Bell has revealed the company is developing a standalone console. Exact hardware and software specs haven’t been announced yet, but Bell has provided a few details. The first mention of the console came via Twitter, when Bell tweeted, “The Mad Box is coming.” Bell told Variety that the Mad Box will probably release in about three years and support up to 120 frames-per-second for virtual reality play. “It will support most major VR headsets and those upcoming and the specs will be equivalent to a very fast PC two years from now,” Bell wrote. “We’re in early talks with manufacturers of components so we can’t say much more right now other than we have the designs specced out in detail.”

USB Type-C Is About to Get Safer and Potentially More Annoying

It has taken a few years, but USB Type-C is finally becoming common on new computers, smartphones, and tablets. This connector comes with a lot of benefits like higher power capacity and a reversible design, but there’s also greater potential for abuse and damage to your devices. That’s why the USB-IF, a trade group that promotes and oversees the USB standard, has launched a USB-C authentication program.

Vuzix Blade $1,000 smart glasses are ready to meet your face

Vuzix has been making smart glasses for well over a decade, primarily for enterprise use such as medical applications or stocking shelves in warehouses. Last year, Vuzix teased a prototype of the Blade, a smaller, slimmer pair made for consumers. Not only does it come with a floating display a la Google Glass, it’s also compatible with Alexa (and, eventually, Google Assistant). Now the company says it’s ready to ship the Blade for $1,000 as it attempts to pick up where Google Glass left off. “This represents a huge step forward for us,” Vuzix CEO Paul Travers told Engadget. “It’s the beginnings of a brand new category of product.”

Next Call Of Duty May Be Modern Warfare 4

If the established rotation for which developer is responsible for each Call of Duty game continues into 2019, then it’s Infinity Ward’s turn next. And a recent tweet of a skull by the company’s senior communication manager Ashton Williams may confirm that it is Infinity Ward that’s at the helm and also hint at what the next Call of Duty title might be. Although there was no accompanying text, the skull itself could imply that Infinity Ward is working on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

Sony reveals the rather disappointing list of games for the PS One Classic

PlayStation today revealed the list of games that will come bundled with its retro console, the PS One Classic. While the list does include several (ahem) classics and old favorites, there are still a few rather large holes in the library.

OnePlus 6T review: Pixel 3’s problems might make this the phone to own

OnePlus’ second flagship smartphone of 2018 has gotten off to a rocky start, to say the least. First of all, just about everything there is to know about the OnePlus 6T leaked long before the phone was announced on Monday. Of course, that pretty much goes without saying at this point, since details surrounding flagship phones always leak in advance. The real trouble arrived when it came time to schedule the OnePlus 6T announcement event. First, OnePlus reportedly pushed back its planned unveiling to avoid overlapping with Google’s Pixel 3 launch. Then, after landing on the date October 30th for its big reveal, Apple announced that its October press conference would be held on the same date. Competing with Apple for media coverage is obviously ill-advised, so the company bumped up its event to today, October 29th.

Tetris Effect is loaded with game modes designed to keep you coming back

Enhance Games’ stylish, trippy take on Tetris will come with a wide variety of modes tailored to appeal to your play style and mood, and those modes are designed to keep players coming back to Tetris Effect for weeks and months after the game launches. The puzzle game’s main “campaign” mode, known as Journey Mode, will send players on a trip through 27 levels, each with their own musical and visual themes. Each level is crafted to tell a story and let players feel different emotions as they play, vice president of production Mark MacDonald said during a hands-on gameplay preview. Levels in Journey Mode will take players from the deserts of Egypt to the solitary darkness of the Moon, while others venture deep into the sea to let players swim with dolphins as they line up puzzle pieces.

Beware of malware, adware when downloading Google Chrome through Microsoft Edge

New Windows 10 PC owners should be careful about downloading Google Chrome through Microsoft Edge, as Bing is apparently returning search results that contain malware and adware. There is a running joke that the only purpose of Microsoft Edge is to download Google Chrome, but it appears that the tables could easily turn for users who are not careful. Fortunately, Twitter user Gabriel Landau did not fall prey to a fake Google Chrome download page returned by a Bing search.

Here’s why your Zoey skin in Fortnite has been removed

A number of players started to notice that opponents using the Zoey skin were harder to see at a certain distance, and it didn’t take long to confirm that they were actually becoming totally invisible to both friends and foes. Strangely, the pickaxes and weapons of the players were still visible but this definitely wasn’t an intended change for to turn Zoey into a ghost for the ongoing Fortnitemares Halloween event.

Sony’s cute — and super smart — robot dog is coming to the US

The company announced on Thursday its popular robot dog Aibo is returning to the US in September for the first time since 2006. The dog debuted in the 1990s in Japan, but excitement fizzled as cheaper robots entered the market.

Last year, the company debuted a smarter version with OLED eyes, facial recognition technology and the ability to develop a personality through artificial intelligence. It’s also packed with cameras and image sensors to detect and analyze sounds and images. Sony says Aibo’s main purpose right now is to be a companion robot.

How Google’s rumored ‘Campfire’ dual-boot Chromebooks may burn Microsoft

The rumored “Campfire” code name for a solution that brings Windows and Chrome OS together on Chromebooks resonates with the concept of a real campfire that brings people together. In a twist consistent with the adage of keeping your friends close but your enemies closer, Google bringing Windows to Chromebooks is a self-serving strategy to amplify its attacks against Windows PCs.

Now is the worst time to buy a new iPhone

In other words, if you want an iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus now, you might want to wait a few weeks until the new models come out. You’ll save hundreds of dollars. There’s just one caveat: some reports have suggested Apple will retire the current version of the iPhone X and replace it with the newer models. Even still, in a few weeks you’ll find great deals on gently used versions of the iPhone X.

Dying Light Bad Blood hands-on: possibly the most interesting battle royale copycat to date

Ultimately, this is still about a helicopter dropping you onto an island, but there’s a few catches and wrinkles to this standard formula. For one, the island is infested with NPC zombies. Second, you’re not just tasked with surviving – your mission is actually to collect blood samples from hives, gross little fleshy mounds growing out in the world. These hives obviously become a focal point for rival players, but they’re also guarded by swarms of zombies – with more valuable hives guarded by multiple high-end, meat-sponge undead. Samples can also be collected from the corpses of slain players.

Here’s around 50 minutes of raw World War 3 gameplay

World War 3, at least in its current state, is a much darker and more drab looking game than Battlefield 4, but there’s no denying where the game takes inspiration from. But it’s not just Battlefield, either, there are certainly some light-ARMA in there with the more realistic approach to weapons and recoil.
