Fans of photo sharing Picplz will be saddened with the news that they will be closing shop next month.
In a blog post, developer of Picplz, Mixed Media Labs said, “On July 3, 2012, Picplz will shut down permanently and all photo and data will be deleted. We have provided download links for existing users to save their photos. Thank you for your support of Picplz and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. Login before July 3, 2012 to download your photos.”
Members of the photo sharing app have about a month to download their photos before it shuts down.
Picplz was competitive with Instagram when they were still budding photo sharing apps. Picplz was even better than Instagram in that it was available for both the Android and the iPhone users. Instagram on the other hand, was only available for iPhone users.
Picplz even had an edge over Instagram back in 2011, when they added analytics for its users and the ability to add Creative Commons licensing to any photo.
Picplz, like Instagram, enables users to add filters and edges to images. They also enable users to share these photos with their own networks, Facebook, Twitter and Flickr.
