Facebook is at it again!
The social networking mogul added a new service to their long line of repertoire when they purchased the popular facial recognition site Face.com.
Face.com is popular for its KILK iOS app. The latter is already linked up with Facebook by suggesting tags before you upload the photos to your profile.
KILK also has features filters that can be applied before you upload photos much like Instagram.
Reports have it that Facebook paid $100 million for Face.com.
This figure is quite diminutive when we compare it to the amount that Facebook paid for Instagram.
Face.com CEO Gil Hersh said in his blog, “We love building products, and like our friends at Facebook, we think that mobile is a critical part of people’s lives as they both create and consume content, and share contentwith their social graph.”
“By working with Facebook directly, and joining their team, we’ll have more opportunities to build amazing products that will be employed by consumers – that’s all we’ve ever wanted to do,” he added.
Facebook has yet to comment on the acquisition.
Will Facebook’s decision greatly affect their IPO standing or will this result to greater problems for the company?
