Amazon In-Car Delivery

The retail giant is providing another delivery option for Prime Members: In-Car deliveries with Amazon Key.

Amazon In-Car Delivery

Amazon just announced a new service for its Prime users – free delivery to your car. Yes, it will deliver your package literally to the trunk of your car.

The retail giant said that it had begun delivering packages in 37 cities to Prime members. This new service is as part of their Key offering.

The Amazon Key In-Car service is compatible to cars with model years of 2015 or newer made by Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, and Volvo.

Atif Rafiq, chief digital officer at Volvo Cars explains the service further. “Receiving a package securely and reliably in your car, without you having to be there, is something we think many people will appreciate. This mix of car and commerce is starting the next wave of innovation and we intend to be at the forefront.”

So how does it work?

Prime members need to download the Amazon Key app and link their accounts to a connected car service like OnStar. Once they have purchased a product, they can choose the in-car delivery option.

On the scheduled day of delivery, a four-hour window is given. Users will be notified when the delivery person is on the way. They then have to give Amazon Key permission which will allow the delivery person to unlock the door and leave the package. Users can track when their car was unlocked and relocked through the app.

Currently, it is only available to 37 cities in the US and their surrounding areas. The retail giant however, says that it will include more locations and more compatible vehicles over time.
