Game developer Sega Games is planning to expand its Sonic Mania experience. The developer is planning to release a Sonic Mania Plus edition. This edition, according to Sega, would introduce two new characters. Sega’s Sonic Mania Plus edition also introduces an additional Encore mode, among others.

But the reported expansion stirred a little excitement from fans. Some fans were worried that they might shed out extra cash for the bonus content. The Sega fan’s sentiment was confirmed when SegaNerds reported that fans would likely buy the game’s Encore DLC pack.

However, it was made clear that Sonic Mania fans who bought the new retail version of the game won’t be affected. The game is expected to arrive this summer. Gaming fans claim that the arrival of the game is a blow, especially to those who purchased previously the game.

Sega said the game could be played in Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 consoles and PC as well. To be clarified on the issue, SedaNerds sent an email to Sega and here’s the company’s response:

“For all gamers who purchased the original digital version of Sonic Mania on console and PC, an Encore DLC pack will be available for sale to access the new features, with more details to come at a later date,” Sega said in an emailed statement.

Meanwhile, Sega will be selling the Sonic Mania Plus for $29.99. Thus, the game’s DLC pack will be sold for around $10. Also, the developer is planning to give additional information about the price of the Encore DLC.

So if you are planning to buy the Sonic Mania Plus physical edition, you will be getting a 32-page collector’s artbook, a reversible Sega Genesis cover and holographic packaging, among others.
