Snap is planning to launch a feature that would allow its users to share public Stories. This would be possible if Snapchat users would share public Stories via links then the Story would be displayed on Snapchat.com.
Snapchat rolls out Stories feature
The company said that only a few Stories are eligible for sharing. This includes Official Stories and Our Stories that could be found in the Discover Tab. Also, Search Stories can also be shared by Snapchat users over time.
What makes this Snapchat feature unique is that this feature would go live to users running the redesigned Snapchat app. Snapchat users both in Australia and Canada can take advantage of the recent Snapchat features.
The updated Snapchat app can be downloaded for iOS and Android mobile platforms. Over the next week, Snapchat users can access the app globally.
Snap, the company that developed Snapchat, said that they would launch the feature because it would allow their users to share content using the app. The company added that this would also serve a check for users who were not yet a user of the platform.
According to the company, the app’s new feature would allow media companies to include Snap-based content in their reporting. But this somehow earned a criticism, saying the app’s feature is similar to the in-app Story.
Aside from this, Snap is also planning to have a more embedded-formats which are similar to other social media apps such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Snapchat stories, using the same web link, can be shared directly through various platforms that would support in-line playback.
This includes Twitter and Facebook where in users could see a link to the full content. Such feature is very similar to how Google’s online video portal YouTube works on the platform.
Meanwhile, Snap is also entertaining the idea of running Snap Ads on its web-based version of its shared stories.
