The Cupertino-based Apple Inc. is planning to place a custom processor in its three Macs by the end of 2018, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday.

Apple is making its own chips for its Mac product lines

The report, however, did not give an accurate detail about the chips. What is clear though is that these chips will be installed in the company’s updated laptops and desktop computer.

Sought for comment, tech analysts won’t discount the possibility of producing a custom processor. The tech giant is known for making custom chips for several Apple products. This includes tablets, phones, and wearables, among others.

They also added that Apple’s move of bringing in customised chips to Mac was not an entirely new concept. In fact, the company started to develop its own chips back in 2016 starting with the high-end MacBook Pro with Touch Bar.

The company said that the chip is responsible for running the Touch Bar and Touch ID. With this kind of development, Apple’s aggressive usage of its own chips could be a game changer for the future of its Mac.

The company is also planning to have an integration of its chip both in hardware and software. Apple is even closer to using its own chip as the main processor inside the Mac.

The company was able to make processors that greatly outperforms Apple’s rivals. But ahead of its plan, Apple may encounter some technical problems along the way as the company is also known to use chips produced by Intel.
