Google Teams Up with Retail Giants on New Shopping Program

Google launches Shopping Actions in the US

Have you ever needed something, had no idea where to get it and went straight to Google to type “where do I buy xxx” or “xxx where to buy”?

Well, you’re not alone. Millions of people around the world are doing this and the tech giant is banking on that to make even more profit.

They are now teaming up with big retailers such as Home Depot, Target, Costco, Ulta and Walmart under a new program that lists their products directly on Google Search, on the Google Express shopping service and of course, on Google Assistant on mobile phones and voice devices.

In exchange, the retailers will have to shell out a certain portion of each purchase to Google. However, this is not to be confused with Google ads which is an entirely different thing.

Daniel Alegre, Google’s president for retail and shopping, said in an exclusive interview with Reuters that over the last two years, the amount of people on Google asking where to buy products rose by 85%. Currently however, this searches most often result to Amazon purchases.

Under Google’s new Shopping Actions, retailers such as Walmart and Target can now compete with Amazon in influencing shopper’s purchasing decisions and help them get more purchases made from their mobile phones and smart home devices through voice searches.

But how does this work exactly?

A shopper can search for let’s say, some new curtains on her way home and adds it to her Google Express cart. When she gets home, she realises she also needs cereals so she searches for them using her Google Home and adds them to the cart and purchases all at once. Easy-peasy.

Currently, the new Shopping Actions is available to retailers in the United States. We’ll have to wait to see if they will also implement this worldwide.

Xiaomi News: Company To Enter US Phone Market By 2018

Chinese mobile company Xiaomi will soon be selling their smartphones in the U.S this year. The news comes following the release of The Wall Street Journal report, saying Xioami is taking an aggressive step to boost its expansion in the West.


The Beijing-based company’s Chairman Lei Jun said that the company has been considering to enter the U.S market. “We plan to start entering the market by end 2018, or by early 2019,” Jun said.


Xiaomi’s expansion in the West won’t be easy


Jun also acknowledged that Xiaomi’s expansion in the West wouldn’t be smooth sailing. He said that Xiaomi would attempt to learn also both laws and regulations. He added that the company would also study how the market, customers behave in the coming months.


In case you don’t know that Xiaomi has already sold several products in the US. These products include an Android TV set-top box, an Mi TV at various Walmart locations across the US. The company also sells two headphone models, a battery pack as well as a robot coding kit at Amazon.


But Xiaomi’s success would solely depend on the various US mobile carries if they would be given a chance to sell their smartphones in the US. It can be recalled that the US government has raised some security concerns over Huawei’s plan to engage in the US market.


The Chinese mobile company was set to launch its flagship Mate 10 Pro in the US, but eventually, the deal did not push through with AT&T because of national security issues. Tech users, however, have expressed their support to Xiaomi’s plan despite the already crowded market in the US.


To name a few brands, Samsung and Apple were able to capture a solid market, competing with to another Chinese company ZTE.

Walmart stops selling Amazon products

Amazon has faced a few setbacks in recent years. But Walmart’s decision to stop selling Amazon products may deal a big blow to the American retail and electronics company.

According to a spokesperson of Walmart, “Recently, Walmart Stores, Inc. made a business decision to not carry current Amazon products beyond our purchase commitments and existing inventory.”

“Our customers trust us to provide a broad assortment of products at everyday low prices, and we approach every merchandising decision through this lens,” he added.

The order to stop selling Amazon products was delivered to store managers last Wednesday. This includes all the Kindle devices.

The reason to pull out Amazon products in their stores is strictly business decision.

The Walmart spokesperson added, “We will continue to offer our customers a broad assortment of tablet, eReaders and accessories at a variety of great price points. This decision is consistent with our overall merchandising strategy.”

Target has also decided to pull the plug on selling the Kindles. This is the second big company to do so.

Walmart still continues to sell Barns & Noble Nook, Apple’s iPad and other tablets.

T-Mobile offers $100 Concord smartphone

Yesterday, TechNewsGadget reported that T-Mobile is going to offer a “truly unlimited” data plan for heavy data munchers.

Today, T-Mobile has announced that together with their “truly unlimited” plan offing, the company is also set to release a $100 smartphone to complement their unlimited data offer.

T-Mobile said that they are going to offer the Concord.

The Concord is a re-branded 2010 Android smartphone that is produced by Chinese tech firm ZTE.

Though not as flashy as other smartphones in the market like the Galaxy S III and the iPhone 4S, the Concord is a great piece of device that works well for an affordable price.

The Concord has a 2 megapixel rear facing camera with an Android 3.2 Gingerbread operating system .

The best part about it is that it doesn’t require a contract for consumers.

The new unlimited plan by T-Mobile is one way of luring customers to check out their services, since AT&T and Verizon Wireless have pulled out their unlimited services.

With the addition of this $100 smartphone sale, it is a good combination for the telcom.

The Concord will be available at Walmart with a no-contract Walmart Family Mobile plan.

It will also be sold at Target beginning August 26.
