Today, Marvel Comics and The Walt Disney Company pause and reflect with great sadness on the passing of Marvel Chairman Emeritus, Stan Lee. With a heavy heart, we share our deepest condolences with his daughter and brother, and we honor and remember the creator, voice and champion of Marvel. “Stan Lee was as extraordinary as the characters he created. A super hero in his own right to Marvel fans around the world, Stan had the power to inspire, to entertain, and to connect. The scale of his imagination was only exceeded by the size of his heart,” said Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO, The Walt Disney Company. Stanley Martin Lieber, a.k.a. Stan Lee, loved the written word from an early age, and wanted to craft stories like those in his favorite books and films, which he consumed voraciously. From a simple upbringing in the teeming landscape of Manhattan, young Stanley worked his way through a succession of jobs until the day he found himself an assistant at a comic book publishing company — Timely Comics.
A number of studies have by now correlated social media use with mental-health risks, such as loneliness and depression. But correlation isn’t causation, leaving a bit of a chicken-and-egg problem: Is social media actually behind these issues, or are people who are already depressed and lonely just more likely to spend time on social media? A new study being published in December’s Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania has tried to look into the causal side of things, and see whether people may actually feel better when they cut down on social media. Its conclusion: “Our findings strongly suggest that limiting social media use to approximately 30 minutes per day may lead to significant improvement in well-being,” the authors write.
During its big X018 event over the weekend, Microsoft confirmed that support for mouse and keyboard support will be arriving for Xbox One next week, with a bunch of titles to receive the feature right off the bat. Strange Brigade, Vermintide 2, War Thunder, and X-Morph: Defense will also have mouse and keyboard support patched in later this month, while Children of Morta, DayZ, Minion Master, Moonlighter, Vigor, Warfare, and Wargroove will also receive support “in the future”.
Domino’s Pizza – yes, the pizza joint – has had a jab at the Diablo Immortal reveal during BlizzCon 2018 in a Facebook promotion for its ‘Treasure Chest’ deal. A Facebook post by Domino’s Pizza Malaysia contains an image that, at the top, reads, “This is not an out-of-season April Fool’s joke.” This is a reference to the moment during the Q&A session for the Diablo Immortal reveal when one member of the audience asked, “Is this an out-of-season April Fool’s joke?”

Scott Cawthon’s Five Nights at Freddy’s series shows no signs of slowing down, with a feature film, a new sequel, updated console ports and a new “big-budget game” in development. Cawthon outlined the future for Five Nights at Freddy’s on Steam earlier today, starting with the bad news: The movie based on the horror games has been delayed (even though it didn’t have an announced release date). Earlier this year, Blumhouse Productions announced that it was developing a live-action Five Nights at Freddy’s movie with director Chris Columbus (Mrs. Doubtfire, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) at the helm. But Cawthon said that this movie will take a little longer to complete, as he’s thrown out his original script.

Samsung’s 8K ambitions became a bit more real today with the announcement of the Q900R, its first 8K QLED set that you’ll be able to buy. It’s the company’s follow-up to the Q9S concept we saw at CES, complete with the same AI processing to upscale content into something resembling 8K. That feature is particularly important, since it gives Samsung a reason to deliver an 8K TV before there’s any real content available. Based on my short time ogling the Q900R at Samsung’s IFA booth, it certainly looks great. But at the end of the day, I wonder who really needs it.
Although it wasn’t included in Acer’s product announcements during the IFA 2018 show in Berlin, the company provided a sneak peek for a gaming laptop called the Predator Triton 900. We don’t know any hardware specifics just yet, only that it sports a unique display frame that enables you to “flip” the screen 180 degrees.

Built partly as a passion project amongst Lego’s creative team and partly as a promo to show off at the Italian Grand Prix, the model’s final piece count clocks in at over one million Technic pieces.

Take the dinner table, the cliched scene where a parent tries to have a conversation with their cell phone-wielding teen, headphones in and distracted. Seventy-two percent of parents feel their teens are often or sometimes distracted by their phones while trying to have a conversation. But when Pew asked teens the same question about their parents, 51 percent of them said they believe their parents are either often or sometimes distracted by their phones during real-life conversations.
Some game developers feel that the commission levels charged by both Apple and Google are unfair, and they may take a strong stand. Epic Games already opted out of the Google Play app store when it launched Fortnite on Android, though it does sell the iOS version through Apple’s App Store.
Windows games with no Linux version currently available can now be installed and run directly from the Linux Steam client, complete with native Steamworks and OpenVR support.

The CEO of Epic Games is sick and tired of being shortchanged by “digital storefronts” who really do nothing else besides list their games and take a percentage for payment processing. He’s not the only one as Fallout 76 may be going in a similar direction. Here’s what we know so far…

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdon
The first Ni No Kuni game was a collaboration with Japanese animation masters Studio Ghibli. This game my not be a collaboration, but it retains the same charming art style.
It has changed the fighting mechanics and has a more action packed feel this time. It is not just about fighting, though. You get to build a kingdom in this game and earn bonuses for your character.
Into the Breach
Into the Breach is an elegant sci-fi strategy blast. It is made by the team behind Faster than Light, still one of our favorite PC games of the last decade. In this game, Earth has been invaded and almost taken over. You need to fight the aliens, defeat them, and save Earth.
Surviving Mars
In this game, you get to build an outpost on a patch of Mars, and have to keep it running to avoid your colonists dying in on the planet’s harsh surface. Surviving Mars looks like The Sims: Red Planet edition. However it’s closer to Sim City meets The Martian.
