Honor 8 Will Not Get Android Oreo-Based EMUI 8.0 Update

To all Huawei Honor 8 users, this one is for you.

Huawei company announced on its official Honor India Twitter handler that Android Oreo will not be available to the Honor 8 smartphone on Monday. Also, the phone is now evaluating whether the Honor 6X might receive the Android 8.0 Oreo and the latest EMUI.

Last few days, Honor announced the rising of its latest mobile IU EMUI 8.0, based on Android 8.0 Oreo. They also gave a list of the smartphones that will receive the newest update. The EMUI 8.0 is currently available for the Honor 9 Lite and the latest Honor View 10 but it will also be available to smart phones like the Honor 8 Pro, Honor 9i and Honor 8 Lite, Huawei confirmed. But noticing, the Honor 8 wasn’t on the list.

The reason behind that is the hardware and software limitation of this smart phone. It was also said that the handset may not be compatible with the Android 8.0 Oreo but on the brighter side, the handset will still receive security patches as of now.

Honor India wrote on Twitter in regards to a user’s post, “ We can understand your concern. However, we regret to inform you that Honor 8 is not compatible for Android Oreo update due to its hardware and software limitations. We always work for our customers and we are really glad to have you as an Honor customer. Incovenience is regretted.” Also, in another tweet, they’ve announce that the Honor 8 will still get security patches “when required”.

They’ve also added in a Twitter post npw regarding to the Honor 6X, “we would like to inform you that the Android 8.0 Oreo and latest EMUI for Honor 6X is under evaluation. We will inform users of the Android and EMUI update as soon as it is ready, please stay tuned.”

To recap, the Honor 8 smartphone was released last 2016 with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based EMUI 4.0.

Android Oreo Update Seen On Some Galaxy Note 8 Phones

Android Oreo Update

There hasn’t been any announcement released about the new Android Oreo update. But it looks like that Samsung is seeding the update to some Galaxy Note 8 smartphones.

Samsung hasn’t officially announce anything about this, but some users of the said phone are claiming that they received the update.

Because only few users were able to receive the update, it looks like Samsung is having a test run.

An Oreo beta testing is available for Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ but not with the Note 8 which is why it’s surprising.

It won’t be long before we would see the update on high-end 2017 phones from the company.

One user was kind enough to post the changes which were noticed in the new update.

  • Update to the keyboard
  • Picture in picture support (so far I have noticed it in YouTube and google maps)
  • App specific long press menus from launcher (can no longer put apps to sleep from that menu or open app settings)
  • Secure folder can be set to stay unlocked until the screen goes to sleep
  • Autofill API support (with bio-metrics) for all apps, and browser
  • Colored media notifications
  • Notification categories
  • Customization options for notification badges
  • Keyboard uses gify for gif search support (doesn’t work in gboard with stock messaging still)
  • More edge lighting options
  • Ability to ONLY view Samsung cloud items
  • Ability to backup Samsung secure folder in Samsung cloud
  • Bluetooth, high-quality audio codecs
  • Manage passwords of Samsung and third party apps with Samsung pass
