Oppo Find X: What is It?

What Is Oppo Find X?

Oppo Find X, what is it?  This is a new flagship smartphone from Oppo.  It is due for global release in Paris on June 19.  This is the first time, since 2014, that the company has launched a flagship device in its Find family.

Oppo And Its Flagship Phones

When the company sets its mind on making a flagship, results are usually very innovative.  The Chinese brand takes credit for selfie beautification features back in 2012.   But its crowning achievement is arguably the Find 7, which was released on May 2014.

Most of Oppo’s flagship phones back then had full HD screens, predictable camera features, and faster, but not quiet fast charging.

The Three Features In Oppo’s 2014 Release

The company decided to tackle three features in its 2014 release.  They started with the use of the 1440p screen.  Then there was the 50 MP photo mode on the old device, using software smarts to create a super high resolution shot from its 13 MP camera.

But its biggest achievement may be the inclusion of the VOOC charging in Find 7.  Promising 75 percent capacity from just 30 minutes of charging the 3000mAh battery.  It marked a solid improvement over Quick Charge 2.0.

The list of Oppo’s Find 7 features is, in fact, as applicable today as it was back then.  If its camera will be upgraded and its internals beefed up, it will not be out of place for a 2018 flagship.

The Oppo Find X

This new flagship smartphone will feature a nearly bezel free display.  It will have a 5x zoom camera, VOOC fast charging, and the best chipset Qualcomm has to offer, Snapdragon 845.

Its camera will consist of one regular and one telephoto camera.  The company claims that the camera module is only 5.7mm thick.  So the Find X will not have a big camera hunch at the back.  The VOOC fast charging can top up a 2500 mAh battery in just 15 minutes.

June 19 is just a few days away.  We will sure to encounter a lot more teasers of the Oppo Find X till then.

Oppo Has Bought Samsung ‘Edge’ Displays

Oppo has ordered flexible OLED panels from Samsung. The latter is set to fulfil the orders by the end of June.

The Chinese smartphone maker is reportedly planning to integrate Samsung’s ‘Edge’ display on one of its upcoming smartphones. This may refer to the Korean tech giant’s Infinity displays, which are commonly sported on its flagship phones.

South Korean publication The Bell reports that Samsung is set to ship these panels by the end of this month. One panel costs $100, that’s about five times the price of a normal smartphone display. Bearing this mind, we’re assuming this new phone will come with an expensive price tag.

If the news is indeed true, this will be a first for both companies. A smartphone with a curved displays on both sides will be the first for Oppo.

As to Samsung, it has remained the only mass producer of the flexible OLED panels. It is also the only device OEM to utilize the technology in its devices since it first became available. This will be the first time that Samsung would be sharing the technology to another smartphone maker, assuming this actually comes to light.

The Oppo Find X is set to launch in an event hosted by the company on June 20.

The device comes with pretty high-end features such as 5X dual camera optical zoom, Snapdragon 845 processor, and up to 8GB of RAM. Although there is no information about the pricing yet, it looks like its shaping up to be a flagship phone material. And if Oppo is investing on $100 OLED displays, it is possible that the Find X could be the smartphone to have it.

Or perhaps Oppo is reserving that ‘Edge’ for something even more high-end? We’ll have to wait to find out!

Oppo Digital : No More High-End Headphones

Oppo Digital Is Stopping Production Of Its High End Headphones

Oppo Digital will no longer continue production of its high end headphones. This is according to the 14-year old US brand known for its high end audio equipment and disc players. The company said they have started winding down its business.

The company said they will gradually stop making some of their products starting April 2nd.

Affected Products

Products like the PM3 headphones, and DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD disc players are the products whose production will gradually stop. Oppo Digital is a different company from Oppo the phone maker. And it is unaffected by the announcement.

Existing And Sold Products

Those who own these products will still get technical support, including for items in and out of warranty. Oppo Digital said those who have bought these products in the past 30 days are eligible for refund. The company also said that they will continue selling these products until their stocks run out. Sales will still be available on its websites and through authorized resellers.

Oppo Digital said it would issue firmware updates on its products when “new features or bug fixes warrant such an upgrade.

Products like UDP-203 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc player and UDP-205 4K Ultra HD Audiophile Blu-ray disc player are likely to receive more frequent firmware updates. Older models like the BDP-103 Blu-ray disc player will only receive one if any critical issues arise.

Why The Shut Down

Oppo Digital did not say why they are shutting down its audio and disc player business. But it is more likely due to eschewing physical media in favor of Netflix, Hulu, HBO, and other streaming services. “ From now on, Oppo Digital will focus our main effort on organizing and ensuring long term support for the existing generation of products.”, the company said in a statement. “As such, we will not have the resources to develop and release new generations of products.”

So if you have these products which are affected by the shut down, you can go see your retailer and be advised on what to do with your equipment.

Synaptics: Fingerprint sensor to launch in 2018 For ‘Tier One’ Flagship

Synaptics is mulling to launch a “tier one” phone by 2018. The company’s customer phone features a finger sensor technology at par with other mobile rivals. Synaptics Incorporated is the leading company that develops human interface solutions.

Mobile users can expect the Synaptic’s soon to be announced phone demonstration come January next year. The “tier one” smartphone is expected to have a Clear ID technology that is far more secure that biometrics.

Also, Synaptic’s Clear ID optical sensors offer its customers a faster and convenient way to optimize mobile security. Earlier this week, the company hinted that its Clear ID fingerprint technology would go on mass production with a selected “top five” phone manufacturer.

How does Synaptic’s Clear ID works?

The company said that its Clear ID fingerprint sensor technology is specifically design for smartphones with infinity displays. The Clear ID in-display technology works by activating the in-display when needed.

“Clear ID is faster than alternative biometrics such as 3D facial, highly-secure with SentryPoint™ technology, and very convenient with one-touch/one-step biometric authentication directly in the touchscreen display area of smartphones,” Synaptics said in a press statement released on Tuesday, December 12.

“The new Synaptics Clear ID optical fingerprint sensors deliver one-touch high-resolution scanning through the full cover glass and enable sleek, button-free, bezel-free infinity displays,” the company added.

By January 2018, Synaptics will present a live demonstration of the Clear ID in-display fingerprint technology during the CES gathering. The live demonstration offers the audience how will the aforesaid technology work on various “tier one” smartphones.

Top 5 smartphone brands

Meanwhile, Synaptics has yet to name the phones that will use the Clear ID technology. However, some smartphone brands belong to the top five OEMs are Apple, Huawei, Oppo, Samsung, and Vivo.

“Consumers prefer fingerprint authentication on the front of the phone, and with the industry quickly shifting to bezel-free OLED infinity displays, the natural placement of the fingerprint sensor is in the display itself,” Kevin Barber, SVP and GM of Synaptics’ mobile division told ZDNet.
