Spotify Adds Free On-Demand Music To Mobile App, Other Updates

Spotify Adds Free On-Demand Music To Mobile App, Other Updates

Spotify’s event today unveils new features of the free version of their mobile app, including on-demand music and data-saver mode.

Today’s Spotify event has been long-awaited especially with all the leaks that’s been circulating. And the speculations are indeed correct: Spotify is beefing up their free tier service in order to attract more users.

Spotify’s Chief R&D Officer Gustav Söderström introduced the brand new free version of the Spotify mobile app at the event. This is the first major change since its launch in 2014.

Previously, non-paying subscribers can only listen to music on shuffle on their mobile apps. Being able to choose the songs they wanted to listen to was only possible through the desktop app. And even then, a limit was set to the number of hours a user can stream free music every month.

Now, free users can listen on-demand to any song they want without limit provided those songs appear on one of the 15 personalised discovery playlists. This includes Daily Mix, Discover Weekly and Today’s Top Hits.

The company is also introducing a new feature they call assisted playlisting. Basically, Spotify will make recommendations based on what songs you add to your playlist.

Another new feature that would make users very happy (and their wallets too), is the data saver mode. Previously, the company didn’t allow offline listening for free. The app now has a built-in low-data mode that cuts data by up to 75 percent! The company is optimising the music streaming and the app (such as images) to save data and power.

Advertisements are of course, still ever-present in the free version of the app. After all, this is how the company makes money. And this is how they convince free users to convert into a paying subscriber.

The redesigned app is rolling out globally in the coming weeks.

Spotify May Offer Better Services to Its Free Mobile Users

Spotify is reportedly planning to revamp its free mobile service offer in a bid to attract more users.

Ever since Spotify has gone public last week, a lot of interest has gone to guessing what will be their next moves. And with the upcoming big event on the 24th of April, more and more rumours are coming out.

A report from Bloomberg claims that the company is developing a new version of its free music service.

According to an unnamed source, Spotify wants to make the free service easier to use especially on mobile. The revamp would hopefully make it easier to access playlists and a better control on what songs to listen to.

Currently, non-paying subscribers on mobile can only listen to songs on shuffle mode when they pick a playlist. Additionally, non-paying users can only skip tracks up to six times during each hour of use.

This move only makes sense as investors put value on the company based on user growth. Better free services would attract more new users which the company can then hopefully convert to paying subscribers. Currently, the music streaming app has 71 million paying subscribers from its total of 157 million subscribers.

The source did not elaborate on any other detail including the exact release date. However, an announcement is reportedly expected in the “next coming weeks”.

Spotify Warns User to Look Out for Fake Premium Service

Premium Service from Spotify is Being Faked

Most of us would agree to the saying that “Music is Life”. Even I agree with this. I can’t stand one day without listening to music. But lately, an app is being used to hack the premium service of Spotify, thus, handing over fake services to users.

There are so many video tutorials which show viewers how to have a Spotify Premium account for free. Two examples of the said videos are these:

This includes you having to login your email address. There might be some tutorials which do work but most of them are used by hackers to get your information. After stealing your info, they will use it for some evil schemes. We don’t want that to happen to us, right?

There are reports stating that there are so many abnormal activities in Spotify. This is the result of people hacking into its system.

In the country, there are so many people posting and promoting Spotify premium at a very discounted rate. They accept cellphone credits, bitcoin or remittances as methods for payment. You can actually buy a Premium subscription for 3 months at only $1.00. Sounds like a great deal? Yes!

But there are consequences. Since the company is aware of this fake subscriptions, for sure they are going to do something in order to implement a solution to this.

This is the same as stealing I might add. Once a person doesn’t have the permission and authorization to sell an item but  he still does, the it’s thieving.

Also, with so many hackers rampaging all around the globe, it is no longer safe to get things for free in exchange for your personal information.

Spotify announced that continuous usage of the said subscription and unauthorized apps which violates their terms and conditions will result to you account being suspended or terminated.
