Status Shuffler app for BlackBerry to update your BBM status

One of the few bright spots that show that there is still a flicker of hope for Canadian tech firm Research In Motion, is its BlackBerry Messaging service.

BlackBerry and its BBM app enables individuals to send and receive files with their contacts, be able to have a chat with them or with a group of individuals, play a game with a contact and change status manually or via a third party application.

One such app that enables you to change your BlackBerry Messenger status is the Status Shuffler for BBM which was developed by SRID games.

Status Shuffler enables you to change your BBM status via a single press of a button. Status Shuffler posts a status either from a quote, sayings, one-liners and others. It has about 15 categories that you can choose from. Categories include relationship quotes, inspirational, funny and friendship quotes.

You can select to choose a time for you to let Status Shuffler change your BBM status.

Status Shuffler can be downloaded in the BlackBerry App World. It has a free version while the premium version costs you around $1.99 and can be installed in BlackBerry units with OS 5 or up.

Check it out and let your status be the talk of the town.

Spotify releases app for BlackBerry

Spotify, which has been introduced to iPhone, Android, Windows Phone, Symbian and all other platforms, has now been made available to BlackBerry users worldwide.

Like other versions on other platforms, the Spotify service for BlackBerry will still require premium subscription, in order for individuals to stream music.

If you’re new to Spotify, premium users will be able to play music anytime and anywhere for your music catalog in the app. You can also create you’re playlist. You can also search for specific tracks, artists, albums on the app and receive and as well send tracks to your friends.

You can try the app via their free 48 hour free trial if you aren’t sure you’d love this app. You can download Spotify in the BlackBerry App World. There is also a promo in the BlackBerry App World where you can have a 30 day free trial.

The Spotify app is available for almost all BlackBerry devices including smartphones from the Bold and Curve lines. Unfortunately, smartphones that run on CDMA-network and the Torch 9800 aren’t currently supported.

This is something good for BlackBerry after all the problems that have surfaced for the company.

Do you think BlackBerry can bounce back from their problems?

BlackBerry App World top free apps (Part II)

This is a continuation of the article written the other day about BlackBerry’s top free apps that you can download in the BlackBerry App World. Some of these are full versions while others are only trial versions. If you want to upgrade to a full version of the app, you need to shell out some dough.

But some of these trial apps are great and can do wonders for your BlackBerry device.

  • Viber: Of course, the free app the lets you send text and photo messages to any of your friends, only those who have Viber accounts of course, for free. Although this app for BlackBerry doesn’t let you call your Viber friends (Android and iPhone users can enjoy this feature), Viber says that they will soon upgrade this and will allow BB users to call Viber friends soon.
  • BlackBerry Protect: This free app enables you to secure all the information if your BB smartphone gets stolen or you accidentally misplaced it. You can lock, locate or wipe out your BB’s data remotely.
  • BeBuzz Free – LED Light Colors: See that red light blinking on top of your BB everytime you get a message, an email, a call or a BBM message? You can actually change that color to what you think would be best for a person. For your boss, a blue on perhaps. For your wife, a pink one may do.

These are some of the free apps that are at the BlackBerry App World. Will be posting another batch of great free apps in the next few days.

BlackBerry App World top free apps

Research in Motion is currently under a ton of pressure to reinvent their BlackBerry handsets and try to pit it against the iPhones and Androids of this world. Though there have been a number of individuals who have traded their BlackBerry’s to devices with other Operating Systems, a handful still remain loyal to RIM and their BlackBerry’s.

In our efforts to help RIM reincarnate their lost bravado, we have collected a few apps that we consider the best free apps in the BlackBerry App World.

1)      BlackBerry Messenger: Who would not love this app? This is where RIM made its fortune (and their push email of course). Once registered to the service, you are able to send messages, photos, videos, voice notes and files to your friends BlackBerry device anywhere in the world. What’s not to love about that?

2)      Facebook: Of course, who doesn’t have a Facebook account nowadays? Once registered to a BlackBerry plan, you can post unlimited status updates right from where you are. No need for WiFi connection or to log in to your laptop.

3)      PicMix: This app lets you edit pictures on the go. You can add frames, adjust width and height of a photo and add filters to your image. No need for your to use Photoshop.

These are only 3 apps. More to come the in the next few days.
