Defect On Some iPhone 7 And 7 Plus Models Admitted By Apple

A defect is being experienced by some Apple iPhone 7 and 7 Plus  models.  This was admitted by the company.  The bug is said to be affecting the microphone of the said phones.  It causes the phone to glitch during phone calls.

Apple is aware of this bug but said that only some of iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models are affected.  Users experiencing this problem have all been using a phone operating on iOS 11.3 or subsequent versions of the software.

Apple Advisory On A Defect On iPhone 7 And 7 Plus

Apple has given a memo to Apple Authorized Service Providers.  It said that service providers at Genius Bars should attempt to fix the issue.  This includes all phones with the said defect, including those which are no longer covered by warranty.  But the memo does not say if the repair will be done free of charge.

What To Do Before Bringing The Phone For Repair

Apple has advised customers to “disconnect or power off any Bluetooth headsets or other audio accessories connected to their iPhone.  This should be done before they bring the phone in for repair.  After disconnecting the Bluetooth,  see if the action has alleviated the problem.  “If that does not work, then it may be the time to bring the phone to be fixed.”

Tech support is advised to run audio diagnostics.  This will show if the iPhone needs repair with alert messages like “accessory not supported” or “device could not detect dock”.  Once a message like that appears, the tech support can start fixing the iPhone.  It is not apparently clear what the actual software or hardware issue is.

Detecting The Defect

You will know if your iPhone is affected by the bug if you see its speaker button grayed-out.  This may happen when you make phone calls or video chatting through Face Time.  Some users have reported having experienced this defect on social media apps.

iPhone 7 and 7 Plus users are assured that the company is doing its best to get to the bottom of the problem and that they are ready to assist users whose iPhones are affected by the bug.
