A high ranking official of Xbox said that Microsoft is unlikely to have its own Battle Royale game. This is according to Phil Spencer who broke the news via Twitter. Spencer pointed out that Microsoft studio will not make their own game despite its massive success.

Microsoft won’t be developing its own Battle Royale game

Unless, he said, that Microsoft would have a compelling story beyond the Fortnite and PUBG’s success in having Battle Royale game.

“Millions are playing [Battle Royale] games right now. I don’t want to just build one because others have built them,” Spencer said. “[Fornite: Battle Royale] is massive, PUBG is huge, new [Battle Royale] variants being built by some very quality devs, I’d rather support unless we find something special in [first-party] that’s a different take.”

Spencer’s statement clearly implies that Microsoft’s studios will never develop a new standalone Battle Royale game. Tech analysts claim that the possibility is still open for software giant’s existing game to add Battle Royale mode like Halo 6. For the time being, Microsoft did not confirm anything of this possibility.

But Microsoft’s decision not to develop its own Battle Royale game because it has an exclusive partnership with the team behind PUBG. This means it would put the company in the direct collision course with PUBG if Microsoft plans to develop its own Battle Royale game.

Meanwhile, Electronic Arts plan to make something new with the Battle Royale game.
“Given that we have some of the best shooters in the marketplace, you might expect that we’re also thinking about new and innovative ways to play,” CEO Andrew Wilson said earlier in January.

“And that doesn’t mean just kind of [making] PUBG replicas inside the Battlefield universe, but it does mean that our Battlefield teams–and I talked a little about this in the prepared remarks–are looking at how they innovate in every aspect of the game, including core gameplay and map design,” he added.
