Facebook-owned WhatsApp is rolling out a new beta on Android.

Android owners can now record voice messages on Whatsapp without having to keep pressing the record button.

This is similar to the Whatsapp for iPhone feature which has been available since November of last year. The beta for Android has been reportedly in the works for a year and was being tested internally.

To record voice messages, simply tap and hold the mic icon for half a second and slide your finger upward. A lock icon will appear and once locked, it can be sent by pressing the Send button.

You can also tap the Cancel button anytime during the recording if you want to stop the recording. This will immediately cancel and delete your the voice message.

Reports also suggest that Whatsapp for Android will soon have the option to listen to a voice message before sending it. However, no word yet as to when will this be rolled out publicly.

If you’re a beta tester, you can download the app’s beta for Android version 2.18.102 on Google Play. The APK file is also available for download here.
