MacBook Pro

Tech giant Apple is launching a battery replacement program for MacBook Pro 13-inch users. This comes after the company has found out that several MacBook Pro users encountered a problem that triggered the battery to expand.

Apple launches free battery replacement program

The Cupertino-based company pointed out that the battery replacement program is for MacBook Pro laptop that has no Touch Bar. Thus, MacBook users who bought their laptop between October 2016 and October 2017 may avail the free battery replacement program.

Concerned users are required only to submit their MacBook’s serial number. By doing so, Apple could check and verify if MacBook users qualify to avail the free battery replacement program.

“Apple has determined that, in a limited number of 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) units, a component may fail to cause the built-in battery to expand. This is not a safety issue, and Apple will replace eligible batteries, free of charge. Affected units were manufactured between October 2016, and October 2017 and eligibility is determined by the product serial number,” Apple said on the replacement program page.

But Apple also noted that even they launched the replacement program, it said the battery problem is not a safety issue. The company did also disclose the number of devices that were affected by the problem.

On top of the replacement program, Apple also announced that it would refund MacBook users who have already paid for the replacement of their defective battery. Apple’s battery program would run for five years from the date of sale.
