Search giant Google is reportedly working a new video-editing technology for YouTube. The new technology would remove the green screen background. The use of green screen technology is one of the common tools for video production.

What is Mobile Real-Time Video Segmentation?

Google called this video-editing technology as the Mobile Real-Time Video Segmentation. This Mobile Real-Time Video Segmentation will be using an Artificial Intelligence as well as machine learning, according to the search giant.

Also, the search giant said the Mobile Real-Time Video Segmentation would eventually replace the background in real-time in any videos. Google said the new video-editing technology is now being tested on YouTube.

And YouTube users can use the Mobile Real-Time Video Segmentation as easy as using filters to any photo. The company has released detailed information on its blog post. Google further said that this piece of technology would be integrated into stories.

“Today, we are excited to bring precise, real-time, on-device mobile video segmentation to the YouTube app by integrating this technology into stories,” Valentin Bazarevsky and Andrei Tkachenka, both are Google Research’s Software Engineers.

The Google researchers added that the new video technology is in limited beta, especially for YouTube creators. “Our new segmentation technology allows creators to replace and modify the background, effortlessly increasing videos’ production value without specialized equipment.”

As of the moment, the new video tool could be used in YouTube’s new “stories” which is similar to Snapchat and Instagram features.

“Our immediate goal is to use the limited rollout in YouTube stories to test our technology on this first set of effects. As we improve and expand our segmentation technology to more labels, we plan to integrate it into Google’s broader Augmented Reality services,” Google noted.
