Let’s Welcome Back Nokia’s Banana Phone
The company HMD Global, owner of the Nokia brand revived the all time favorite Banana Phone. The phone, the new Nokia 8110 4G slider resembles Neo’s slider handset from the 1990’s. Their difference between the two lies in the feel and design to match the modern era.
The Nokia 8110 4G slider comes in black and yellow and is curved. The new Nokia Banana phone (Nokia 8110 4G slider) is designed to come in at the low end of the market. It is an entry-level smartphone. It is powered by Quadcomm’s Snapdragon 205, outfitted with 512 MB of RAM and 4GB of NAND flash storage. The smartphone has a 2.4” display, 240 x 320 resolution. A 2 MP cam with flash enables its basic imaging capabilities. It runs an operating system based on the KaiOs.
The KaiOs cannot compete with the Android. It is aimed at the cheapest smartphones typically designed for emerging markets.
The original Nokia 8110 was the first to use the slider form factor. It had a slight curve designed to wrap around a face, was very unusual at that time this became its distinctive feature. It was an expensive phone at that time. And because of its distinctive feature it gained the nickname the “banana phone”. Its color was just black but then a company developed a bright yellow casing for the banana phone for those who want an eye-catching phone.
In 1999, the Nokia 8110 was modified.
It became popular when it was used in the movie “The Matrix” . Although the phone’s placement in the movie attracted attention, it did not drive its sales up as more sophisticated phones were available in the market at that time. The only features of the original retained by the Nokia 8110 4G is nostalgia and its attention grabbing design. All other features were upgraded to be able to compete in the market and be acceptable to prospective users. Its design has been developed to suit its future users needs. It now comes in black and yellow. So watch out for the coming of the new Nokia 8110 4G fondly called the “banana phone” and let us all welcome it.
