Google’s online video portal YouTube has found itself in a controversy this week. YouTube has received a barrage of criticisms from social media star Logan Paul posted a gruesome video. The YouTube star posted a video of a body hanging from a tree inside Japan’s “suicide” forest.

Logan Paul has already removed the video, but it was publicly seen and viewed by his million fans in the video platform. He issued an apology this week and noted that as a human, he commits mistakes. He intends only to “raise awareness for suicide and suicide prevention.”

YouTube star apologized

In his apology, Logan Paul said that he should have never posted the video. “There are a lot of things I should have done differently but I didn’t, and for that, from the bottom of my heart, I am sorry,” he said.

“I want to apologize to the internet,” Paul addressed the public in a video. “I want to apologize to anyone who has seen the video. I want to apologize to anyone who has been affected or touched by mental illness or depression or suicide. But, most importantly, l want to apologize to the victim and his family.”

“I made a huge mistake,” he further explained. “I don’t expect to be forgiven. I’m just here to apologize. I’m ashamed of myself. I’m disappointed in myself, and I promise to be better. I will be better.”

Meanwhile, YouTube said that Paul violated the company’s policies. The company, however, refused to comment why it did not take down the video as soon as possible.

“Our hearts go out to the family of the person featured in the video. YouTube prohibits violent or gory content posted in a shocking, sensational or disrespectful manner,” a company spokesperson told CNN Tech in an interview.

“If a video is graphic, it can only remain on the site when supported by appropriate educational or documentary information, and in some cases, it will be age-gated.”
