Celebrities and other famous individuals are not the only ones that are being haunted by fake social networking followers and spam.
Facebook and Twitter, two of the largest social networking sites, have their fair share of fake followers.
44% of those who follow Facebook’s Twitter accounts are fake accounts. This according to the London-based social media management firm StatusPeople.
They added that Twitter’s followers are also being targeted by these accounts, as about one third of their followers are fake.
Statuspeople defines a fake or spam account as, “Spam accounts tend to have few or no followers and few or no tweets. But they tend to follow a lot of other accounts.”
Business Insider also said that Twitter’s 61% of Spanish followers are considered spam or fake accounts.
On the contrary, 33% of those who follow Google and YouTube are considered fake or spam.
These types of individuals tend to follow accounts of huge corporations because this may hide the true motives behind them creating an account. They think that this legitimizes their accounts or would seem to look legitimate.
It is difficult to define spam or fake accounts and the algorithm for them isn’t exact.

Do not need a password, only a handle and 5-10 $ and the infestation will occur! Horrible time trying to purge the the prank…
