If the report by TechCrunch is true, then Facebook would again be on the hot seat, as the social networking giant is set to unveil a new feature that allows its users to view their Facebook friends that are nearby.

Find Friends Nearby is a Facebook feature that enables individuals to find new friends at locations or events, without keying in their name/s on the search bar.

Facebook hasn’t announced the new feature as of yet. But according to TechCrunch, Find Friends Nearby is currently operational on iOS and Android devices.

CNET asked Facebook to comment on the issue. The company was tight lipped and said, “We are constantly testing new features but have nothing more to share at this time.”

But Facebook engineer Ryan Patterson told TechCrunch regardind Find Friends Nearby, “For me, the ideal use case for this product is the one where when you’re out with a group of people whom you’ve recently met and want to stay in contact with. Facebook search might be effective, or sharing your vanity addresses or business cards, but this tool provides a really easy way to exchange contact information with multiple people with minimal friction.”

Will this new feature cause a stir and violate privacy issues?
