Android’s latest Ice Cream Sandwich has been slowly trickling to smartphones the world over and statistics say that figures have doubled in only two months.

In a blog post in the website of Google’s Android Developers, they said that the Ice Cream Sandwich is now running on 7.9 percent of Android devices.

In a post last April, the website said that only 2.9 percent of devices run on Android 4.0.

Previous Android operating systems such as Froyo (Android 2.2) and Éclair (Android 2.1) have slowly lost a number of users.

But Android’s Gingerbread (Android 2.3) operating system has seen an increase in its user-base as its share rose by 1.3 percent.

Last year, 44 percent of smartphones ran on Android compared to only 23 percent from iOS.

The company is slowly rolling out their Android 4.0 update to smartphones.

Devices such as Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab (both 8.9 and 10.1), Galaxy S2 LTE has already received their Ice Cream Sandwich update. Samsung’s latest Galaxy S3 is preinstalled with the latter.

HTC on the other hand, is planning to roll out Ice Cream Sandwich for the EVO 3D, Desire S, Desire HD, Incredible S and Sensation XL.

Other companies are also planning to update their operating systems to Ice Cream Sandwich in the future.
