That is, if they push through. You see, the internet search giant is eyeing an entry in online tablet selling.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal last Thursday, the company wants to venture in an online store to sell tablet PCs directly to consumers.

The store will sell tablets from Samsung Electronics Co. and Asustek Computer Inc. The report which cites anonymous sources said tablets that will be sold are those that have Google’s Android OS.

The company previously sold a smartphone, the Nexus One, directly to the consumers a couple of years back but decided to close shop after a few months for failing to live up to expectations.

Google has been heavily relying on their carrier and retail partners to market their Android smartphones from different makers. Their OS is the world’s No.1 smartphone operating system ahead of Apple.

Though the company still is has the most used operating system in the market, Apple still dominates the market for touch-screen tablet computer with their iPad. Amazon’s Kindle is based on open-source Android computer code, but it features a customized interface that does not use many Google services.

Google is considering subsidizing the cost of the future tablets to make them more competitive with the Kindle Fire.
