The NBA All-Star event is coming. Superstars will once again strut their stuff in this yearly bonanza and showcase their talents on the hard court.

NBA fans look forward not only to the actual game but the weekend long events most especially the slam dunk competition that features rim rattlers and graceful flyers.

The slam dunk competition used to be decided by judges who are seated at courtside. Now, the likes of Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley will not decide on the winner. Instead, the NBA is letting the fans choose who they want to be crowned as slam dunk king.

According to league executives, this year’s festivities will be the most digitally and socially connected All-Star game.

Melissa Rosenthal Brenner, the Vice President of marketing for the league said, “All-Star Weekend has really become a celebration of basketball, attracting a global audience and bringing together the best players from around the league. Given the global nature of social media, it’s perfect time to ramp up our efforts in the social space.”

One of the biggest changes in this year’s showcase is the tweak to the dunk contest. Fans will have the opportunity to vote by tweeting the hashtag #SpriteSlam along with a letter corresponding to their favorite dunker. They can also text and vote via NBA.com.

Looking forward to a fantastic weekend.
