style="text-align: justify">But a research released by Google said that Canadians are not keen on the idea of using their smartphones to make purchases online. After polling about a thousand individuals who have smartphones, only 20 percent said they already purchased an item using their devices and 16 percent said they are going to increase mobile shopping next year.

Amazon’s Kindle e-reader was a huge success in the tablet market. Though not as popular as the iPad, it has created its own niche.

A tipster informed Reuters that the company is about to release their latest version of the Kindle. The report said that the source has direct knowledge of the matter but asked not to be named.

This new Kindle now has a front light that enables users to be able to read in the dark. Previous versions of the device had to buy an external light to suffice their craving of reading while in the dark.

Vice President of Emerging Display Technologies at DisplaySearch Jennifer Colegrove said, “I do see demand for a front-lit Kindle.” She also added that this could pose as a problem to the Kindle as a Front-lit battery could consume additional power thus it’ll run out quicker.

Amazon is also expected to launch a new Kindle Fire later this year. Sources have said that this latest gadget boasts of an 8.9 inch display.

Reuters source also added that the Kindle e-reader will be launched in two versions: the Touch 3G and Touch WiFi.

The news agency pegged the price of the Kindle e-reader at the same price or will be slightly higher by $10.
<p

The world’s most popular game developer will likely receive a boost in sales since pre-orders for the third Diablo game has become a record in itself, being the most pre-ordered PC-based game in history.

One thing that will most likely become one of the most impressive improvements in the game is the auction house that enables players to trade their items such as sword, armor and potions for real-world currency with the developers of the game getting a cut on every deal.

According to Jennifer Martin, a member of the academe at the University of Western Ontario, “A lot of companies are realizing that it actually can be profitable. We’re seeing a much greater willingness in people to pay for stuff that doesn’t really exist, other than on internet servers. And if they’re willing to spend money to make their game play better, companies are definitely going to capitalize on it.”

The previous version of the game, Diablo II, is considered as one of the best-selling games of all time. Cowen Co. analysts say that they are projecting about 5 million units will be sold by Blizzard in Diablo III’s first year of release.
<p

From free giveaways to free internet, people will line up just to have a piece of it. A shop that offers free internet to its customers will be packed by patrons that only bought a single latte. And mind you, those individuals will stay for quite a while.

In your neighbor or community, once you have an unsecured WiFi to your home, you’d certainly see that a number of individuals will try to connect to your connection. Not placing a password to protect your network can mean free Internet to your neighbors. You’ll notice this because your connection might come out as slow and the problem with this is that they might even gain access to your computer or laptop.

But researchers from the Grenoble Institute of Technology and the Centre Technique du Papier in France has found a way to get rid of freeloaders even if you don’t password protect your WiFi network. They developed a wallpaper that shields your home from WiFi signals, may it be incoming or outgoing.

This said wallpaper blocks electromagnetic radiation in the frequencies used by WiFi but lets radio waves and cellphone signals go in and out without interference.

But before using this, you’d have to plan your interior design first. You’d have to place them in your exterior walls to prevent it from blocking signals within your house.

Kantar Worldpanel ComTech.

The release of the iPhone 4S closed the gap between the two OSs in the run-up to Christmas, but Android has opened up a comfortable lead over its nearest rival since Kantar Worldpanel ComTech last conducted its analysis of the market in December last year.

Android-powered handsets accounted for 48.5% of the smartphone market during the study period, after its sales were dented when the 4S hit the shelves in the final quarter of 2011. The Google-designed operating system has seen its market share increase from 37.8% just one year ago. Android has carved out its impressive market share since launching from a standing start in 2008.

Year-on-year, the next biggest winner in terms of market share was Apple, with iOS’s share of UK sales up by 6% to 28.7%. The launch of the iPhone 4S had pushed the California-based manufacturer’s operating system to just below 35% of the market in the run-up to the festive season, but sales have fallen back.

Overall, smartphone handsets accounted for 73.2% of all mobile devices sold in the UK over the study period. However, some survey data suggested that growth in the sector could be in decline. Just over half (51.6%) of people who bought a smartphone during the study period already owned one, suggesting the pool of feature phone users switching to smartphones could be decreasing.

The research also revealed that the Windows Phone 7 platform outperformed Nokia’s ancient Symbian OS for the first time. Nokia and Microsoft’s big push of the Lumia line of devices helped boost WP7 to a 2.5% share of the UK market, slightly ahead of Symbian which languished on 2.4%. The Nokia Lumia 800 accounted for 87% of all WP7-based phone sales in the UK, making a huge contribution to the 2% uplift in sales year-on-year.
Kantar also discovered that smartphone users are becoming increasingly pleased with their devices. When asked how satisfied they were with their handsets, the average smartphone user awarded their device 7.9 out of 10, with one being very dissatisfied and 10 being very satisfied. The typical feature phone owner only awarded their mobile 6.9 out of 10.

Apple customers proved to be the most satisfied with their choice of device, with the typical iPhone user giving their handset 8.8 out of 10. Samsung devotees could only manage an average of 8.0, while HTC handset owners mustered only 7.6.

Smartphone owners were shown to be fairly promiscuous when it comes to OS loyalty, with 54.1% of those who bought a new device changing platform.

This post was written by Simon who At this day and age of mini thumb drives, nothing compares to the Kingston’s Wi-Drive. They have unveiled this technology a few years ago, and now they are upping the ante with the release of their new 64GB Wi-Drive.

The Wi-Drive is compatible with pretty much any wireless-capable devices out there in the market.

This enables you to store any content, may it be music files, video files or any files for that matter, from your wi-fi enabled device to this Wi-Drive. The speed of the transfer rate is fast and can even stream content to an iPad and iPhone simultaneously.

The company says that you can use the Wi-Drive up to three devices all together. You can access the Wi-Drive from any number of devices. The catch is that, the more devices that are trying to access the device, the slower the speed.

It charges via USB and can last up to 8 hours with a single charge.

The BeoPlay A3 is one phenomenal gadget. It’s designed to sit upright or on its side and was built to shape a wedge to let you view content easily even if it lays flat on the floor.
<p

The video shows the iPhone cracked screen rendering it useless to the thief.

According to the video, the data on your smartphone quickly transfers to your iTunes account so as for it to be protected and you can still access it even if you’ve lost your iPhone. The phone then wipes out all the data in your stolen device.

RIM CEO Thorsten Heins revealed the features of the new OS running on a prototype device at their annual BlackBerry World Conference in Orlando, Florida. Unfortunately for BlackBerry fans out there, the launch date of the new BlackBerry device was not released.

RIM used to be a company of choice for businessmen and entrepreneurs and their handset of choice was the BlackBerry for its push email and BBM service. Now, the company is trying to figure out what went wrong and how they could salvage what is left with the company and rally to reclaim lost fortune.

Analyst’s says that RIM’s future is heavily dependent on their new software platform which is the BlackBerry 10.

Heins said, “I’m very, very confident we will be there later this year with an exciting product. Make no mistake, this is not the final device, this is not the final hardware. But it’s a very, very important milestone for us.”

The prototype device had a touchscreen with no physical keyboard present. It features a modified touchscreen keypad that enables users to select full words with a single stroke.

Technology and fashion usually go hand in hand when it comes ladies. More often than not, women want to pair their fashionable accessories with their smartphones or tablets. It is quite noticeable when you go out on the streets as you see seemingly simple looking gadgets being adorned by gems and other things that set them apart from the others.

Well, there is this new iPhone carrying bra that could set the trend for device carrying cases.

Called the JoeyBra, it was developed by two individuals from the University of Washington. They saw potential in this part of the market.

The two students created a means for ladies to carry their iPhones in their brassieres.

Here’s what their website said about this invention:

“Inspired by UW’s vibrant Greek system, JoeyBra was created for women who are constantly on the go and struggle to find a place to put their ID, keys or phones. From our own personal experience, we know that women hate taking purses to dances, bars or dance clubs. Leaving these items at home can pose a safety risk, but with JoeyBra women will never have to worry losing or damaging their valuables again.”

They JoeyBra, according to its inventors, can hold an iPhone along with ID, credit cards and keys.

The WB150F brings with it an 18X optical zoom lens that has a 24mm wide angle and 432mm telephoto capability. Not only does it feature a great lens, but it is also capable of connecting you to the Internet using its WiFi capability.

This device has in-camera emailing and uploading features using the WiFi and the company has teamed up with two free mobile apps for iOS and Android that allows you to share content from camera to your smartphone.

The MobileLink app is a peer-to-peer interface to connect your camera to a phone via WiFi connection and vice versa.

The WiFi menu of this device also gives you access to Facebook, Photobucket, Picasa and YouTube. Video uploads are limited only to 324 by 240 resolution clips with a maximum duration of 30 seconds.

This point and shoot camera is a great camera for starters and for those who love to share photos in their social networking accounts. If we compare it to other WiFi enabled cameras, the WB150F is impressive. It has an uncluttered button layout and it is user friendly.

Though the image quality of the camera is only good, the video quality it produces is far behind its competitors.

The iPad has taken the tech world by storm. Ever since its inception, it has become more and more popular as this tiny tablet slowly becomes a must-have for tech-savvy individuals.

Since the iPad is basically a scratch magnet, entrepreneurs have blossomed from different sides. These guys have found a way to earn money through cashing in to your iPad obsession by developing protective casing to shield your gadget from the harsh realities of the environment.

A US based company named MapiCases has emerged as one of the top companies in this industry. They make cases out of authentic cowhide leather. They manufacture their products in Turkey.

One product stands out the most is the MapiCases Orion. You can definitely tell that it’s a quality product just by glancing at it. The leather design looks great and with 5 colors to choose from, you’d certainly have no problems picking one for your iPad.

The Orion iPad’s creen flap opening is at the short side of the tablet. It has four parts as the flap can be folded so as to make your device stand. It can stand in both portrait and landscape positions.

Your iPad slides into the compartment at the side and is secured with a press down button.

The MapiCases Orion is a great buy and investment for your most valued iPad.
<p

Instead they have decided to create affordable models of these Ultrabooks that are quite similar to the later but are in the notebook form.

Ultrabooks are great gadgets to carry around. Unfortunately for the average Joe, the prices of these said devices start from $1000. It is a bit heavy on the pocket.

But according to Digitimes, laptop makers have finally decided to recreate them in a much smaller model. The good news is that it would retail at a low cost as compared to these pricey Ultrabooks.

Developers will try to recreate the latter by making adjustments like using cheaper parts and updated designs. An example of which is using AMD processors as opposed to using Intel Ivy Bridge processors.

Manufacturers look at the Ultrabook market as an appealing way to generate sales as the masses want to purchase one.

This looks like bad news for Intel since these new models would certainly not carry their processors and the loss that it will incur to the company will accumulate for years to come. Unless they do something with the price of their processors, laptop makers would surely shy away from Intel since they want to save money for profit.

Bad news for them, good news for us.
<p

They have been in the business for quite some time and have nearly perfected their craft.

Now, Oakley CEO Colin Baden has revealed that they have been venturing into something for quite some time already and have decided to announce that they are working on a project similar to that of Google’s Project Glass.

According to Baden, “As an organization, we’ve been chasing this beast since 1997. Ultimately, everything happens through your eyes, and the closer we can bring it to your eyes, the quicker the consumer is going to adopt the platform.”

Oakley is planning to focus on creating great displays for athletes. They are convinced that once they start from there, it will eventually lead to military and government purposes.

Baden added, “Obviously, you can think of many applications in the competitive field of sports. That’s the halo point of where we would begin, but certainly you can transcend that into a variety of other applications.”

Oakley has been in the forefront of upping up the ante in terms of eye-wear. A few years ago, they released a sun glasses that was integrated with an MP3 player. They have also released a stylish 3D glasses to offset the sinking feeling of moviegoers from wearing a piece of cardboard.

The D3200 boasts of a powerful 24.2 million pixel sensor that would make men drool. It only lags behind Nikon D800’s 36 million pixels.

The D3200 isn’t a direct replacement to the D3100. It is being marketed to be at par with the latter.

Eleven AF points are provided by the Multi CAM 1000 AF sensor for face detection focusing when shooting through the viewfinder.

ISO capability of the camera is 100 up to 6400 and is expandable to H1 which is equivalent to ISO 12800.

The D3200’s uses the same processor as those with more expensive camera bodies from Nikon. Namely, the D800 and D4. The Expeed 3 promises to be faster than the Expeed 2 processor. It will result to better noise reduction and full HD video recording.

It is pegged to be priced around $895 for the body only and $1,039 with the 18-55mm kit lens. The body will be available in both black and red and will be sold this upcoming month.
<p

But a lot of individuals are shying away from the great outdoor experience due to one simple fact: the inability to carry electricity out there.

It’s difficult to luge around electric generators just to meet your electricity needs. With all your devices needing charging, the outdoors truly is a big no-no for you and your peers.

But a pair of engineers is attempting to build the PowerPot. The latter is a combination of a cooking vessel and a power generator.

The PowerPot was designed to be used outdoors. What separates it from the rest of the cooking wares out there is its thermoelectric power generation hardware. You only have to hook up the included wire to a USB-compatible device and the heat that is being generated by cooking is turned into electricity to charge your device.

Power Practical which makes the PowerPot says that the latter can provide up to 5W of energy in its smallest size while the bigger model, the PowerPot X model, is designed to be used with tablets as it can provide up to 10W.

Now you need not worry about dead batteries in the woods.

As part of a Telecommunications-sanctioned pilot program, New Yorkers will notice a 32 inch smart screen in their phone booths starting next month.

In a New York Post report, if the idea is well embraced by New Yorkers, more and more phone booths will be outfitted with these devices. Technology such as Wi-Fi hotspots with email and Skype capabilities may be added later on after a successful launch.

Starting next month, directories will show information about local restaurants, areas where to shop, traffic alerts, directions and safety alerts. These are free to use mind you.

New York City has teamed up with City24X7 for the project. The latter is a mobile communications company that works with tech-savvy cities the world over.

The devices which will be installed in the phone booths will be water-proof and dust-proof. The city government has not released the total amount allocated for the project but said that ads will be the ones who will pay for the expenses.
<p

But the future of driving might just be a few years away as Woburn, Mass. based company Terrafugia Inc. announced that their prototype flying car has successfully concluded its maiden flight.

Called the Transition, the car can seat two individuals, has four wheels and has wings that are foldable so it can be used in city streets without having those protruding things out there. The car was able to fly for 8 minutes and reached 1,400 feet in the air.

About a hundred individuals have already paid the $10,000 deposit for the car. Analysts expect those numbers to balloon as the company is set to unveil the Transition to the public later this week at the New York Auto Show. It is expected to cost at around $279,000.

The US government has already granted Terafugia’s request for special tires and a glass that is lighter than normal windshields in vehicles. The government has also temporarily exempted the Transistion from the requirement to equip vehicles with electronic stability control. This would lighten the vehicle about 6 pounds. The flying car is currently texting batteries of automotive crash tests to make sure it meets federal safety standards.

The Jetsons might be a real thing then.

Well LG Displays announced their plans to develop such a device that can be used on tablets, iPads and even on your TV screens.

The company has been pursuing the technology for a few years and today, LG Displays said that the world’s first roll-up screen will be released in Europe next month.

Head of operations for LG Displays mobile/OLED division Sang Duck Yeo said, “With the world’s first plastic EPD, LG Display has once again proven its reputation for leadership and innovation with a product we believe will help greatly popularize the e-book market. We are excited as we look toward applying concepts form this experience to future developments like plastic OLED and flexible displays.”

But a few individuals are less optimistic about the announcement.

A display industry expert and the man behind HDTVProfessor.com Alfred Poor said, “This is a relatively small development in the grand scheme of things. This appears to be a monochrome e-paper display. This means that it… has low power consumption, but it also means that it’s probably slow and not suitable for moving images such as video. It’s not in color, and probably has limited grayscale capabilities.”

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal last Thursday, the company wants to venture in an online store to sell tablet PCs directly to consumers.

The store will sell tablets from Samsung Electronics Co. and Asustek Computer Inc. The report which cites anonymous sources said tablets that will be sold are those that have Google’s Android OS.

The company previously sold a smartphone, the Nexus One, directly to the consumers a couple of years back but decided to close shop after a few months for failing to live up to expectations.

Google has been heavily relying on their carrier and retail partners to market their Android smartphones from different makers. Their OS is the world’s No.1 smartphone operating system ahead of Apple.

Though the company still is has the most used operating system in the market, Apple still dominates the market for touch-screen tablet computer with their iPad. This loophole gives apps access to photo libraries of users without their consent and copies them to a remote server.

This problem was first reported by New York Times. According to them, the inadequate security only requires permission to access the internet.

CTO of security software company Lookout Kevin Mahaffery said, “We can confirm that there is no special permission required of an app to read pictures. This is based on Lookout’s finding on all devices we’ve tested.”

What’s shocking about this is that Google is actually aware of this.

A spokesperson from the company told NYT, “We originally designed the Android photos file system similar to those of other computing platforms like Windows and Mac OS> at the time, images were stored on a SD card, making it easy for someone to remove the SD card from a phone and put it in a computer to view or transfer those images. As phone and tablets have evolved to rely more on built-in, non-removable memory, we’re taking another look at this and considering adding permission for apps to access images.”

So beware of the files you save on your phones. Someone might be able to copy them and post them in the Web.

From <a

Their updates can be downloaded over the air or can be directly downloaded from their support page.

One update which is very promising is its sharing feature that allows users to select passages and quotes from e-books and share them with their buddies. These shared notes and selections can be viewed by other kindle readers who are also reading the same book.

Kindle Book Extras are now also applicable to the Kindle Fire. It used to be applicable only to the Kindle Touch. This offers users a rundown of character bios, a glossary of terms, information about the author and a listing location within the book.

The company also added support for their “Print Replica Textbooks” on the Fire. This gives users the ability to preserve the layout and page numbering of the original printed work. Other e-books have a text layout and pagination that are adjusted on the fly.

For those who are not the serious type of individuals, Amazon has an update in the video rental DRM that prevents the rental period from starting until you begin watching the video. It used to start when you have downloaded the movie.

Not bad at all.

From <a

The tech giant has been plagued with a number of problems since the release of their latest iPad. Though we can live by some of them, but some seem to be impossible to set aside.

Nokia is not excused from this predicament. Since the release of their Lumia 800, they have been bugged by battery issues. Consumers have aired their sentiments on this matter and this did not sit out well with them.

Now, the Finnish phone maker is announcing that they are releasing a global rollout for the Lumia 800 that will eventually pave way in boosting the smartphones battery life.

According to Nokia’s blog post, “since launching the Nokia Lumia 800 late last year, we’ve been focused on delivering continuous enhancements to the phone through software updates. Today, we’re happy to announce the third software update in only four months. This software version for the Lumia 800 brings significant improvements in battery performance and power management.”

Looks like Nokia is stepping up to the plate. Hopefully this update works.

From <a

The 3 million units sold during its first week fays it all. People want the iPad.

However, as the days turn into weeks, consumers or owners of the latest device is finding out problems with the device.

The first problem to pop up was the smart covers that didn’t worked on the latest iPad. Then the heat that emanates from the bottom portion of the device. Though problems arose, analysts and individuals discarded them and considered them as minor inconveniences that they could live by.

But, another issue cropped up. People are saying that the battery meter of the latest iPad is inaccurate and provides a false interpretation of the batteries real amount.

This issue is different from other problems as this is a major issue. According to reports, the latest iPad gets an hour less run time if you unplug as soon as the battery meter hits full. The company hasn’t made any statement as to the matter.

Though gadget makers don’t advice people to overcharge their batteries, in this instance, it is much better if people do so. Overcharging the batteries of your device can result to shortened battery life.

According to Isidor Buchmann, CEO of Cadex Electronics, “It’s actually better not to charge the battery fully. If you never fully charged your iPad, the run time would be a little bit less, but you’ll keep the battery longer.”

Let’s just wait for Apple to release a statement. For now, choose the lesser evil. A longer time for using your iPad or a shorter battery life?

From <a

The company originally suggested that they would be releasing this product at the Mobile World congress. But, Samsung retracted the statement days before the event took off.

Since then, a lot of speculations have arisen as to the delay of the release. But most importantly, people were so hyped up that they couldn’t stop thinking about the new smartphone and what it brings to the table.

Gizmodo released an image of Phones 4u store in London that has a banner with the message ‘Coming 30.3.12’. The website states that, “These shots were taken of the Phones 4u store on London’s Oxford Street, but apart from that we don’t have much information. We know Samsung’s going to announce its new flagship within the next couple of months, but previous rumors pointed at April and May, not March.”

So what then was the sign all about? Your guess is as good as mine.

As for the phones features, it seems like nothing much has changed since the first leaks went out. It is said to have a 12 MP camera with a LED flash, slow motion, time lapse and the video recording rate of 60 fps. Those are but a handful of it.

Now, let just keep our fingers crossed.

mage credit: Gizmodo.com

From <a

Suddenly, you see something odd in the water. You don’t know what it is. It doesn’t look like a shark. Nor does it look like a harmless turtle. Then you realize that it’s a jellyfish. What would you do?

Well, it would be good for you if that jellyfish is the one that is being dubbed as the Robojelly. This contraption that was created by researchers at the University of Texas at Dallas and Virginia Tech, is one of the most impressive robots out there today. It moves like a jellyfish and expands and contacts its synthetic muscles to pump out the water.

This device is powered by itself. It converts the hydrogen and oxygen found in water into heat. The researchers who created Robojelly designed it to swim around indefinitely in the ocean to act as surveillance for the military or to monitor the ocean for pollutants.

According to Dr. Yonas Tadesse, assistant professor of mechanical engineering at UT Dallas, “We’ve created an underwater robot that doesn’t need batteries or electricity. The only waste released as it travels is more water.”

Now, if they can only recreate a shark. That would be impressive.

From <a

While some individuals relish the experience, a handful suffers from the annoying conditions that some flights have. From long queues of the check in counter to rude seatmates, the list goes on and on.

Little perks here and there are a good thing and an excellent way to lighten up the burden.

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the mobile app of SeatGuru.

The much beloved service that informs you which seats on planes are good and vice versa is now available on your mobile device.

It’s simple, you just input the airline and flight number into the app and the app presents you with a detailed map of the seats on the jet.

Unfortunately, the app also has lows. This doesn’t give you a rundown of your preferences and doesn’t inform you of seat availability or let you reserve a seat. The map was also designed back in 2007.

The app has other features. It has a TripAdvisor search engine, though it’s just basic.

There is also a flight tracker. But be aware that when you check for a flight, it will automatically give you a selection of flights not during the day but later on the month.

From <a

It has secured thousands of signups in its first few days. In fact, the company said that they were getting 1,000 new members per hour during its first day.

Anuj Nayar spokesperson of PayPal said in a statement, “To say there’s been some interest in our new offering would be an understatement. Clearly there’s a need for a secure, global solution that provides small business the flexibility to get paid anytime, anywhere, any way.”

The concept behind this new service is like Square. They both offer a free service in which a device is plugged into a smartphone headphone jack and lets merchants or individuals accept credit cards through the phone. Their main goal is to streamline and simplify in-person payment transactions.

The primary difference with PayPal Here and other services is that this service is already global and has merchants in US, Hong Kong, Australia and Canada. To add to that, this service is under PayPal that has millions of clients in the world.

Currently, PayPal here is available for select merchants but the company is planning to open up to other merchants next month.

From <a
